Building a new rig, my old creaking 7 year old needs retiring!

I'll be throwing in my existing GTX470 for now along with my Tagan 700W PSU and DVD-RW.

Anyone forsee and issues with the above bits? I've heard I can only fit two 3.5" HDD inside the Prodigy with a long gfx card, is this the case? Any issues fitting my optical drive with the H60 v2?

Ta all!

Games, Emulation, Films/Music, general use really. Will get a better gfx card at some point. Just checking all that gear will go together, it's gonna prob last me the next 5 years!

Yeah I have about 4.5TB at the moment over 5 HDD's and its rammed to ****. Looks like the prodigy can only fit 2 x 4TB tops.

Don't mind spending a bit more as it's gonna last me ages, quite happy with the bits I've picked just checking on compatibility/space issues more than anything.

You can always place a third HDD on top of the bottom HDD cage, on a sponge or something, and secure it with straps to the cage. Alternatively you can use the optical bay for another HDD, and use an external optical drive instead. So already you have room for 4 HDD's without using the top HDD cage that needs to be removed for long video cards.

A shorter card would allow you to use the top HDD cage. http://uk.msi.com/product/vga/N760-2GD5-OC-ITX.html#overview

The Tagan 700w seems to have pretty big connectors that go into its modular ports. And its depth is already 160mm. May struggle a bit to get it in there. But by all means give it a try. Just giving you a heads up so you're not surprised. There's a simple mod that can be done to secure the PSU even if you leave the back of it sticking out of the case a little.

The H60 should be fine, and not interfere (much) with the optical drive, if you mount it in the best direction.

Get yourself one of these for the front:

YOUR BASKET
1 x BitFenix Spectre PRO 230mm Blue LED - Black £16.99

It won't intake much because front ventilation is poor, but it will help push the air where it needs to go, and prevent hot air pockets forming. Not noisy if you use the included 7v adapter.

Quite agree with the above, if you're set on the Prodigy. Maybe a smaller/cheaper cooler if you won't be overclocking much.

The ASUS board won't last you any longer than the MSI one. The SSD is on offer at a fantastic price.

Added to the basket. Ta for the advice, especially on the HDD's, good to know.

What PSU would you recommend that will fit no with no issues?

Nah don't like stuff dangling of the unit, it's next to the TV in the living room. Nice, clean and minimal.

Still struggling finding an answer on the PSU. I just can't find a straight answer on this anywhere I search!

Hi,

I'm currently speccing up a new SFF build, I was originally looking at the Corsair 250D however now have my sights set on the BitFenix Prodigy Mini-ITX (in black with the red mesh front) and in the same boat with the PSU.

I'm currently looking at the Corsair AX860i or AX760i, wanting something fully modular for maximum air flow and no cable clutter. Not sure if these will fit the case properly.

Does it need to be ITX? The M-ATX version Prodigy case is the same size with a re-adjusted interior!

160mm maximum for the PSU in the Prodigy, I believe. Both for the ITX and the mATX versions. They actually recommend non-modular, though, because on modular PSUs the PCBs on the cables stick out a bit, adding extra length.

The Corsair AX760 is 160mm. I assume the 760i is the same. However, unless you've got a 7990, no ITX system will need a 760w platinum PSU.

EDIT: The AX760 will fit, but it is tight due to the modular cables: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=25862277#post25862277

The AX760i is also 160mm long.

If you go non-modular, theres plenty of space on either side of the PSU to hide cables and gets them out the way of airflow and also clutter if you have a window
