Minimum for 4k monitor?

3GB is fine...

Having in game setting that use more then 3GB is waste of time unless your happy with 15fps to 20fps

Taking from the review you linked/quoted ;)

That was a single GPU, two could run the game playable at those setting, 3 certainly, as long as you have enough vRam that is.

Even using 3 titans in TRI-SLI would only give you around 40fps avg at them settings..

I still say todays GPU's are really not fast enough to handle games with settings that use more then 3GB vram..

You mean Minimum? just one is getting 15 so 3 is going to be around 40, well, the 290X will the 780TI will still be on 0

I think everyone agrees, but the OP asked about what you would need today to run 4K. Discussion has deviated from the original question somewhat...

If you read that review closely the reviewers were not entirely happy with the 4gb on the 290X either, you need 6gb cards for that resolution.

A quick look at the GPU-Z sensors confirms that we are using pretty much all 3GB of the memory on the GeForce GTX 780 Ti. The AMD Radeon R9 290X used 4012MB of memory, so you can see that with 4K monitors you really do need a video card with as much frame buffer as possible! The AMD Radeon R9 290X setup didn’t have the frame rate drop to zero, but we could ‘feel’ hesitations at some points in the game on the 4K monitor that aren’t there when gaming at lower resolutions

For 4K if you want to run with all the settings maxed 3gb or 4gb cards are not up to it.

Idiots what did they expect by running at 8xAA at 4k on a pretty high demanding game..

At some point I will get a 4K monitor but what I need from it is a big screen size like about 40". The reason for this is I like playing games like Civ5 where it is nice to get as much of the map on screen as possible. In this situation running with max settings is a big advantage.

I Saw a lovely Samsung UE65F9000 65" 4K Ultra HD LED TV in my local retailer today....(price was £4750) the picture was stunning

But it a bit to big for my desk...:( :p

On this subject I just hit 2900MB in AC4 at 1440P

People need to stop kidding themselves and just either wait it out or buy Titans.

Tell that to the only guy in the thread who has a 4k monitor. He swapped out 3 titans for 3 r9 290x's. In gaming he said there is no difference but the 290x's have better 4k support in refresh rates.

Well then this person is obviously dialing down detail settings. There are already a few videos floating about with people using over 5GB VRAM in BF4 at 4K.

Not a great start going into 2014 surely.

I saw a peak of 2700mb at 1080! Most of the time floating around the 2400mb mark until I ised gfe recommended settings which dropped 8xmsaa for fxaa, it then dropped down to around 1650mb.

Bf4 will be fine kaap even says his gtx690s max out bf4 with no issues at 1600p. No way you are gonna use double at 4k. Those are only 2gb usable. If 4gb cards are a problem at 4k we will hear It being shouted from the roof tops pretty soon. My guess is most people wont be running games maxed as there fps wont be high enough to have the game running smooth unless its a game thats easy on the gpus and most likely memory. Dirt 3 for instance was running on 2x290x at 12k.

It was only last year Greg was showing us 2gb was enough on his surround setup and games have not moved on that much.

I never really noted VRAM usage on AC4. Dialed most the settings down because it was near unplayable with ultra settings...

Also, regarding 4K. I don't understand this whole, if you're buying for 4k. You HAVE to have all the settings dialed up to 11, or there's no point?
I'm not the best person regarding this as i turn most settings down regardless of game, monitor blah blah as i prefer playable games over eyecandy.

If memory serves, that was down to the wrong cables being used to connect the monitor in the reviews - ie User error
