What's the minimum yearly salary I should expect to be on for an IT helpdesk support role?

Is £20,000 - £23,000 reasonable or is this too high?

Will be in Buckinghamshire if this makes any difference.

Cheers,

G

Experience if not completely relevant and a slightly long while ago.: 3 years of mainframe support and 1 year of on site pc and networking support.

I'd imagine the minimum may be as low as 10-12k depending on hours, qualifications, experience, company, business sector, geography and the employee themselves.

"I know a bit about computers. I can expect a £20k job as my first role in IT":D

i started on helpdesk at 15k but moved up to 18k after a while. i always thought that was on the high side for helpdesk work.
guess it depends on the place tho.
20-23 sounds too high to me

Way too high. Support is the lowest of the low.

Clarify 'helpdesk'.

If you're answering phones and emails then raising tickets, £12-14k. It's just admin after all.

If you're doing first line support (office, mapping drives et cetera) then £14-16k.

If you're doing second line stuff (dabbling with AD/Exchange) then £16-20k.

If you're acting as a helpdesk supervisor, AD admin et cetera and third line support then £20-25k.
