Minimum Temperature for home

That’s our bedroom. Doing my bit for the environment :D

17 bare minimum. But keep the house around 18-19c when we're home. Actually some rooms that are not used we set lower (16.5c).

I wear jumpers and layers though so no need to put it at 21+ which would be delightful - but that's what the log burner is for!

We have smart Trvs so actually quite easy to minimise heating whilst keeping the rooms we want warm. We certainly don't want to be in the cold. Yes it costs a bit more but sod it that's just something I'm willing to pay for. The log burner is also on 24/7 at the moment and has been for the past week.

I have a dial thermostat in my hallway and the central heating control unit in my kitchen. I can’t seem to find a way to link the thermostat, my heating seems to be on or off no matter what the thermostat is at. I’ve no way of figuring out if it’s wired in and doing anything… also, my hallway should be the coldest room so not sure why the thermostat is in there.

What’s the cheapest way to get a wireless thermostat, ideally that I can monitor from my phone? Hive seems kinda pricey and hoping there’s a cheap alternative.
Hive is pretty inexpensive if you can land a deal. I paid £130 fitted in my old place. Just trawl HUKD until it comes up. It was from Amazon. Well worth it considering how little control you have on a regular 'stat.

IIRC we got our hub and a remote socket free from BG a good couple of years before we got the thermostat, then got the thermostat fitted for around the same price you paid (both via BG rewards from memory).

I have to save I was brave and fitted it myself but I have a reasonable amount of competency with electrical systems. However I couldn't be without it now. I'm sure that it has saved me cash, certainly the heating comes on less. That plus the extra insulation I added.

It's the smart Trvs and home automation that really does the trick. Means that if no one is home the heating ramps down to very cold (16). But as we come home or if we're at home it keeps the rooms we are in at a comfortable 18 or so.

Just trying to get my Hive into an automatic mode of operation. I find if you put Heat-on-Demand on, and don't have a 'stable' read out from where the stat is, it can do all sorts of strange things. So reverting back to regular timer mode:

The idea is that the system is optimised during the day to keep the office and the living room to ~18. The living room drops a degree every hour, hence the time slots on Thermostat 1. The rooms are then configured to the right temp when they are likely to be occupied.

It is annoying you can't set Heat on Demand to a schedule too, i.e. I only want the Rear Bedroom to be able to turn the heating on if it drops to super cold but not to get to target 18 degrees if its already 16 etc. Maybe I'll have to start coding HA scripts...

108!!! Jesus!! Do you have a large family? Maximum for me is 8 in a day and that's with a good few hours of heating on.

There's 3 of us but house is quite large and has a roof conversion that wasn't well insulated. It's typically quite a cold house.

Slightly related. What temperature do you set your house to when you go away? We're away but I've turned everything off. Wonder if I should have it come on a little?

I've set ours to 18c until 10pm, then 16c between 10pm - 7am.

When the price cap went up in October, I set it to 14c and then just boosted it when I was cold, however when the cold snap hit, I spent most of my days freezing, even with blankets on me.

I'm trying to do my bit in reducing energy consumption but anything less than 18c I find makes me feel awful.

I'm a cold person naturally and even 18c I find chilly most of the time. 18c in the car is for when I want it ice cold, so no wonder the same temperature in the house isn't very pleasant.

Since my heating is included in my rent service charge, I've been roasting my potatoes off for the last few weeks. Had to turn it down yesterday as it got a bit unpleasant. :p

I'm in a similar position until we move, except this week my landlord is staying and he's fiddled with the heating :P

Gone from highs of £15.18 to £1.08 (as of 16:49 :D)

W/C 31st Oct - £29.11 (old boiler, mostly hot water)
W/C 7th Nov - £21.94 (old boiler, mostly hot water)
W/C 14th Nov - £7.13 (new boiler was being installed so no heating whatsoever)
W/C 21st Nov - £39.37 (new boiler)
W/C 28th Nov - £48.94
W/C 5th Dec - £78.03
W/C 12th Dec - £83.84

Outrageous amounts of money really, but ca la vie. I haven't yet worked out my winter spend to calculate an average payment so EON is financing my current utilisation :D
