I had the via epia m1000 1ghz cpu for a small media center, and this played almost everything i threw at it, every now and then, a dvd would start to stutter, but i'm talking like 2 dvd's out of hundreds that were tried.
CPU usage would be around 90% most of the time when playing a dvd/divx file though.
If you want to run windows update on it though, do it over night, it takes aaaaaages!
Do you think SD is dead in car with 7 or 9" screens?
Oh come on, thats a ridiculous comment. I am talking about in a home cinema environment.
Mr B - once it's built can you provide some feedback on its dvd capabilities? Also could you play a divx on it and let me know how that goes mate? I'd really appreciate it.
OK, hope you're still interested Anyway, it's all up and running on XP Home SP3, with the latest drivers and I must say it's all working pretty much perfectly. It's hooked to a 24" Toshiba LCD TV via the VGA cable and resolution is set to 1280x1024 (I think). DVD playback is very good although it does struggle a bit with the blacks - a bit of pixelation in very dark scenes. This doesn't bother me too much as it's only for the kids and there is already a DVD player hooked up to the same telly.
I haven't tried divx yet. Perhaps tomorrow.
I would be interested to see a linux OS with XFCE desktop/fluxbox on there plllleeeaaasssseeee.
