Mirage vs Eclipse ?

Just setup my new rig in an Eclipse and it has been the most pleasant and hassle free build i've done so far. Huge amount of room inside, slide out motherboard tray, easy to access drive trays, excellent cooling and no cut fingers, scuffed knuckles or swearing used.

I would recommend this case to anyone doing a 8800GTS/GTX or future RD600 build.......room for a monkey inside ;)

huh ?

is that a dig at the door? thats the whole reason i went for the mirage over the eclipse.

i've got scotch LANGUAGE! white dvd drives, it'd look LANGUAGE! in a doorless case.

Yeap cant stand a door in the way, even if it takes 1 second to open it... mind u I burn crazy and use my USB ports a lot....

im just a bloke that needs to put things into a hole without problems.

sorry for delayed post, got banned from posting for a while for the mildly offensive language!

well, built the mirage now. you do not have to remove any wires to get at the fan, the case cover at the front clicks off easily.

my impressions are that the drive bays are tat, and the case itself is flimsy to build in (this will go for the eclipse aswell).

BUT the finished product looks awesome! and cable management was quite well catered for. could d with more holes to feed cabling through like coolermaster vintage cases.

the buttons are not on *** door, but the case itself, the door usefully has buttons too that just push the underneath buttons.

one big shame: the akasa fan controller cannot be installed flush with the front (without door modification) as the door has no space in it for the nobs, again coolermaster cases think of this!

i need to spray some wires black to connect up the side panel, why do they ship with grey/white wires when they go to so much effort to maintain the blackness ?

side window looks great (this is an extra) and the wheels are a lovely touch. very useful is the removable top panel for optical drives and PSU, can't say how useful this is as don;t want to be banned for expletives again ;)

overall, great looking case, but alhough the finish is great, the build quality is a little flimsy, and thumb screws could be bigger as in most cases if they are tight you need a screwdriver!

will post piccies soon enough.

just ordered my akasa mirage :D also got some 120 nocta fan's will i need controller to run these in the front and back? i know newbie question but it has just occured to me that i may need and mean's of controlling them or do you just connect it to mothered/psu and leave them running all the time?

i am using the akasa pro fan controller, but t has to sit back a bit in the bay due to the door, although i'm going to stick all the extra faces under the one i want to pad it out, which i think should work and make it flush. but you could just connect to the mobo, and maybe then control through the bios.

see my build here;

very nice build junk, funny got zalman on order too ;) the see through window look's great.

carn't wait for mine to turn up

thanks Zia,

i think you will like the case a lot. i advise you get some black insulation tape from your local hardware store, very useful for sticking wires up out of the way, and unoticable if not all hidden.

i'll take some more piccys with a decent camera. those ones dont' really do it justice.

am i the *only* one to be shocked these akasa cases are so loved?? I have had the displeasure of building a computer up in a mirage.

While it is indeed huge... the "removable" bays require you to take the whole front bezel off first to remove a thumb screw (wtf??) the quality of the plastic used is absymal, the aluminium is wafer thin, i found sharp edge aplenty, i could go on but i wont.

Bar its size (which i admit was a boon and i cant understand why no one else has done a similar size) why are the akasa's so renowned?? How are they worth ~ £100????

I always find this so weird :\

I'd just like to know why really? I mean the plastics genuinely are terrible, really awful, as bad as your average £30 "nokia" case tbh. Is it purely because of their huge internal space?

As i say, I do admire that at least, but everything else was so unimpressive for a £110 case!!

And lets not forget the fact they are about as elegant as a kick in the face....

1st thing I did was check your sig ;)

Thats good am surpised they stuck it on the side, guess they are using there brains a bit more now.

The Eclipse62 still has some cons ive never liked the front but ive noticed with the front panel up and even a lo-noise 120mm fan theres an annoying hum.

Using anti vibration holders/clips helps a tad.... taking off the entire front panel and the annoying hum vanishes;)

My Eclipse looks pretty funky nekkid

I feel theres even 20-30 quid cases with proper front fan flow rather then it being blocked or slightly vented, the quest for better cases (doorless) continues :)

tbh I found the plastic to be very good!

Maybe its just the Mirage then? I just found everything to be so much flimsier when compared to the alu cases ive used in the past (Lian-Li, current coolermaster, antec, Cheiftec etc) Even the thickness of the alu used in its construction was so thin, I could flex the panels!!

The plastics were so thin and brittle, when we first took the front bezel off to remove the "quick" remove drive bay (honest, worst design decision ever...) that one of the 6 clips just snapped inwards! Only case I have ever had that happen to me on was a £15 "Jeantec" case from another e-tailer.

Im not saying it doesnt have its merits, but i wonder if it wasnt one of the roomiest cases on the market and was just similar to other cases of the same price, would people still love it as they do?

Its size is its saving grace in my eyes :)

You have some valid points, but the plastic door on the mirage is actually quite nice.

you are very right about the flimsyness as i said before but if it ws as thick as the coolermasters or silverstones the case would cost 200+ due to the amount of aluminium.

anyway, more than happy with the mirage for the moment, but my next case will be a silverstone ;-) or an antique coolermaster

If it wasnt for the 80mm fan mounts and the fact its slightly to narrow to accomodate large coolers, theres no way I would have chopped my coolermaster wavemaster in this morning for an antec P180 ;)

Not sure why, but case manu's seem to have forgotten the art of making all alu cases *including* the bezel!! CM did it with the WM, and that was (and still is) around £90...

Have wavemaster and an akasa eclipse mirage; if only the wavemaster had 120mm fans then i'd get another.

I really like the Eclipse case and can't really say a bad thing about it.
Can't stand doors on cases and i'm glad i made the choice over the mirage.
Lovely case to work with.
