...im not a noob ...... every game on my system plays perfect .... what makes this game so special that i need to update my GPU driver?

Maybe some compatibility issue with Windows 7?

Does it crash straight away, before you can get to the game menus or anything?

Yes .. i click the shortcut on my desktop , the screen goes black and then i get an error message.

Also i tried every combination in compatibility mode and it still won't work.....

.... sure it's got something to do with NVidia Physx software it downloaded ....

I crashed on it until I turned off the Nvidia Physx option in the menu, however my crash wasnt immediate, I was able to play the game for a few minutes and then it would lock up and minimize. Once I turned off the Physx option in the game menu it was fine. Not much help though if you cant get to the menu.

I guess there might be an ini file or something in the game directory where you can find a line to disable the physx , cant check at the moment though as I'm at work.

Have you actually updated your graphics drivers yet?

You've asked a rather inane question - why wouldn't you want to have the latest drivers?

Got the latest physx too? Just incase.

And don't be so blunt with people trying to provide help. They won't take too kindly. :)

ah ah!!! - wouldn't STEAM automatically update the physx drivers? Seems strange i have to install an NVidia piece of software for an ATI card ....

sounds like an ATI/win7 related issue :(
the game worked fine on my x1950 so maybe its a HDxxxx series issue, i dont use Win7 (i refuse too due to these kind of issues), would you be comfortable running a dual-boot with win XP? thats the only fix if its a Win7 thing unless you can run some kind of DX9 compatable option

Nothing to do with UAC on your system at all? I've known a few games to crash like this on loading due to not having the correct privileges assigned by UAC being enabled.
