ATI Tools is giving me 22-25 Idle / 40-42C under Load
BIOS is giving me the same 22-25 Idle
Speedfan is giving me 22-25 Idle / 40-43C under Load

But..

Core Temp is giving me 30-34 Idle / 50-53 under Load (on both cores)

im running an E6600 @ 340FSB (3064mhz) stock volts (priming for stability atm, at 2 hours)

i thought core temp was supposed to be the most reliable? are all the other programs incorrect?

any help would be appreciated

P.S. what are your recommended CPU/other Temperature monitoring applications?

speedfan, ati tools (mbm) and the bios all read from the motherboard so they will all have the same readings. Coretemp reads directly from the die as far as i know and hence is more reliable, could use Intel TAT as well but that should give same readings as coretemp as it also takes the readings from the cores.

the temperature sensor is in a differnt place... I've never heard of a coretemp that's as low as a mobo temp since the sensor is on the chip, as said.

Coretemp reads over by ~ 15 deg.
As long as the CPU's stable then ignore temps. Almost all the software reads from different places so its hard to get a figure stating exactly whats correct and what isnt.

Where did you get that info from?

Recently had a discussion with a couple of people regarding coretemps readout. I assume thats what you were referring to with the question?

Eh, how the hell would you know that?

YOu can't get a temp probe on the core, where these temps are taken from.

15C difference between Core center and IHS seems within reason.

CoreTemp is the most accurate temsp you can get, end of.

By the same logic, how can you say it ISN'T showing temps 15 deg over?

Intel Thermal analysis tool (TAT) and core temp are a hell of a lot more accurate than PCprobe/speedfan as the temps are taken from the cpu and not the motherboard sensors. My PcProbe temps are laughably low (23c 100% dual load with 1.6v!) confirmed with speed fan. TAT and core temp are much more realistic in reporting higher temps of 41c load although still probably slightly inaccurate. It a guessing game but I would err on the side of caution tbh.

try using motherboard manager, then core temp, you'll notice that they display the exact same temps, i regard MBM as very accurate, so if coretemp is as accurate as MBM then its good enough for me

Coretemp and TAT are pretty much accurate and read temps directly from the die. Imho these temperatures should be used and not the lower temps reported by software that uses methods other than direct die monitoring.

The temperature difference between on die reported by TAT and that reported by speedfan varies as temperature of CPU increases. iirc at idle the difference for me is approx. 10 deg. Under load the temp difference is approx. 14 Deg.

I would also presume that Intel actually know how to read temperatures accurately from thier own chips!
