Miss White Britain

Along similar lines, I just found out about this magazine...

About Us

The New Black Magazine is an online serious magazine, which aims to provide insightful features and opinions on issues concerning today's Black men and women.

It will also provide a mirror into centuries of Black history. It will educate, inform, provoke and investigate. It will neither stifle debate nor promote hatred in any shape or form.

Its duty will be to give a frank account of affairs. Our writers are among the most intelligent and thought-provoking writers and bloggers in the world.

Please note that views and opinions of writers may not necessarily be that of The New Black Magazine.

While our core audience is the African Diaspora, we sincerely hope people of all races and persuasions will enjoy the magazine and be part of our growing family for many years to come,

I wonder if there is a magazine for white people too? :p

I would be interested to hear the views of those who think that there is no such thing as the white race. Clearly the black producers of the black magazine believe that blacks are a race. And I agree with them.

I'm not sure that they do think 'black' is a specific race per se from that information, their core audience may be black but that is merely a colour to identify with rather than a race as such. They do say they welcome all races and persuasions but that doesn't, of itself, necessarily imply they consider black a race.

I'd be pretty sure there are plenty of magazines for white people and even more that don't actually specify a desired reader type based on skin colour.

Incidentally I'd have called it a "serious online magazine" rather than an "online serious magazine" as it strikes me as inelegant English in the second formation.

To me it very much implies it :)

It seems to me to simply be a way of including anyone regardless of how they view themselves so it caters to you (and perhaps the authors of the magazine) who believe that race can be determined along lines of skin colour and also to me who doesn't really believe any such thing. I guess it really comes down to how you construct the English used in the sentence, it can be viewed either way to my mind.

It is a magazine for blacks primarily of course because its content is tailored to them. If the producers see black as simply being a skin colour then they would surely have said that it is for anyone regardless of skin colour, rather than race. I agree that it is open to interpretation but that is mine ;)

Maybe that is how the authors view it also, I'll just call them wrong as well though. :D Black is a skin colour, not a race to me.

To be fair, the special olympics is a good analogy. :o

You mean the quote about arguing on the internet being like winning at the Special Olympics?

Lol, no. I was actually referring to black women. Hope I don't get labelled a racist for this, but black women rarely look pretty to me.
That wouldn't be racist as it is simply your personal preference which cannot be wrong, by definition :)

It's scary looking at how many threads regarding race and immigration he's been active in. :p

To be fair to DD it isn't just him. I think there are far too many race/religion/immigration threads appearing in General Discussion nowadays. I would like to see the Mods move these to Speakers Corner and keep General Discussion a more light hearted forum.

So would you like to see *all* serious threads about current affairs moved to SC, or just ones on the subjects you mention.

would there be a riot if there was the "Music of White Origin' Awards?

i think there would ...

Really? Why don't you try organising something like it to see what happens. I doubt anyone would care actually.

Ever heard of the BNP? I think they get away with more than enough for the white person without much 'outrage' compared to some silly beauty contest, especially amoungst forum members here.

Some of you lot must lead really sad and boring lives if something like this is an important issue to you.

THis threads getting old now, so was there any winners? or sexy pics? anyone post me a miss white UK ?

hehehehe

Omg, I can see her feet!

heheh that made i laff :D

Is it racist, well like many of you have said if we had a Miss White GB or something then we would be seen as racist so i guess i think it is.

Although on a more important note i think that Beyonce has big thighs, i mean like out of proportion...like a Minotaur :p

As someone has already said, it's a bit like the special olympics or paralympics. You don't call the olympics "olympics for non-retarded people", same reason you don't call Miss Britain, "Miss Britain for good looking white women". I mean, even if they started a "Miss White Britain" it's not as if black women would be missing out in comparion to just "Miss White Britain", so it's pretty pointless starting one in the first place.

Therefore I think a "Miss Black Britain" is a good idea since it gives a wider range of black women a chance to compete.

Exactly how do they define black? Is it the skin colour or the race? If so, do they do DNA samples for each competitor or do they measure the skin tone and if you're a certain shade or darker you're in?

Could my girlfriend put a load of spray tan on and get in?

"Miss Great Britain has been dominated by a lot of white girls for a long time and many judges or even the contestants who go ahead for it are mainly white," she said.

That's presumably because Great Britain is predominantly a white country?!
