Missed flight due to strikes help needed!

Tbh can't say I've ever checked to see if there's a strike due that could affect any trains or flights I'm booked on

Very stupid thing to do. If you're relying on public transport you check. It's not as if strikes are the only issue that crops up.

We have always used train line to check the train times and have always been fine. Why would you look at national rail. You would at least expect emt on there on site to show the trains as cancelled?

Trainline are not the operators or controll the network, they sell tickets.
So you've never wondered why theres no status page on train line.

I'll learn from the ops friends mistake heh, but imo the companies who provided the tickets should provide warning to customers booked on affected routes by email, txt or whatever if they have contact details

Too complicated, as said only online booking will have details. They sell tickets. They don't run the network and in most cases don't have anything to do with the trains. You go to national rail which gets all the information together from all the sources.P

Anyway does she have any insurance that might just cover it, be it through a bank account or proper travel insurance all though it'll depend in what's covered and small print, but I doubt many would cover it. But worth looking.

Train ticket can be refunded or charge back on debit/credit card.

I personally use national rail as its easier to navigate on your phone. Can you not see my point about Trainline though? Why display the trains if they are not running or why can't they send an email out. Surely they must have some sort of system in place with national rail?

If you have used trainline for many years and it has always been fine then you are going to trust it.

I am by no means saying she is at no blame at all. Just saying I feel EMT could have sent some emails out and by the looks of things quite a few people who live in England are unaware of it let along if you are in France. I think her dad checked all the times for her and failed to mention that it was a bus operating instead of the train (bus took to long). Sure Trainline could post something about it on there homepage?

Yea I understand your point. I don't think an email to all accounts would be to difficult. Surely it should be up to the operator and also the seller of the ticket to ensure the up most effort is taken to inform passengers. Just wish we had a system like rail europe one website for everything.

Travel insurance does not cover strikes. Wasn't over £100 the flight so no cover on credit card. I mean its not a bucket load of money but just wasted money which is more the annoyance.

If she purchased the flight and the insurance before the strikes were announced, her travel insurance will cover this.

If she purchased the flight after the announcement of industrial action then I doubt she will have much luck.

Stansted suggests Ryanair. Ryanair means no refund! Its totally up to her to get to the airport on time. The conditions of travel are also totally separate. I.e Train contract is only to get from Station to Station and flight contract from airport to airport. Neither will compensate you for one making you miss the other.

The only chance she has is if she has travel insurance, and even then as mentioned if she booked it after the action was announced then I don't think it'll be refunded.

Yea i understand that never mind. Just wondered if there was any other possibilities or people had similar problems.

Checked travel insurance not covered. Thanks for your help anyway:)

EMT have a big graphic on their front page (which for today indicates the 10th May but for the previous days strikes has indicated other dates respectively) which links you through to the strike time tables. They have also had "news" items on their site indicating what they plan on running too ...

If you search on trains on the EMT site it's also returning only the trains which are running.
