Just got Half Life 2: Game of the year edition and the activation code is missing. All I can do is ring the online retailer I got it from and hope to get one if not then have to try to plead my case to valve. I doubt either of them will give me one, porbably think I'm trying to get another one for someone else. Can see this being a time wasting matter to get resolved.

Well youve bought the game so you are entitled to a cd key.

If valve work the same way as the company I work for they should give you one if you can upload some images of box, disk, receipt ect...

If they wont give you one then push the shop for a replacement.

The place you bought it from should give you a replacement (they are legally required to replace or refund faulty goods) Don't give them an uncertain "any chance if you can" phone call, just send it back as a faulty item (which it is if the activation code is missing) and request a replacement. If you've bought it from anywhere large or reputable you should be fine - my experience of online returns for games and DVDs has generally been very good.

I'm stating the obvious, but check the code isn't somewhere else on the packaging where you're not expecting it!

Had the same problem with a different game, Ordered it online and simply returned it as faulty, was given a replacement within four days.

Yeah ive had the same. Just go back to the shop and ask for one with a CD code. No problem. If they dont (Which they will) ask for a refund as the game does not work.

Then they have to give you your money back or a new copy. Easy :D

Best thing you can do is say. "Get your manager out here, I wish to speak to them" Just loud enough for the customers to hear.

Doubt you'll have problems getting a replacement, just it'll take a couple more days that's all. Take it you've double checked everywhere and in/on manuals etc? :)

Yea I just had to send it back which is annoying as they screw up and I have to pay for it.

To Be fair its not the retailers fault, but whoever made the disks.
I do feel for ya though, shoulda just bought it off steam :p

I was going to but where I got it from was cheaper than getting them all off steam.
