Hi Guys,

I need your help with a problem that I have been trying to resolve the last two days.

My computer has the following hard drives;

OCZ 60 Vertex 2E - contains the OS
1tb hard drive - contains my backup files and software
500gb hard drive - contains the Program files

If I boot my pc with just the SSD Hard drive plugged in then I get the Mussing BOOTMGR. However if I plug in the other two drives then Windows boots up.

I have tried to install the windows 7 with just the SSD hard drive and it boots up fine. However once I plug in my other two hard drives I get the Missing BOOTMGR error message.

Any ideas on how I can resolve this issue, as I have now ran out if ideas ?

Bashy.

Have you checked the boot order in your bios? Check that the ssd is on the top of the list when the hard drives are installed.

Hi Thomas,

Yes it's DVD and then the normal hard drives and then the SSD. These is no option for which hard drive is to be used first in the bios.

This has never changed it's been working first over the last year or so.

Have you tried putting the ssd above the hard drives (or indeed first)? If you installed windows onto the ssd without the hard drives, then the bootloader must be on the ssd. It'll return that error if the hard drives are higher on the boot priority because there isn't a boot loader on them.

If that fails, or I'm getting the wrong end of the stick, try manually booting from the ssd with the hard drives installed. On most bioses you can do this by pressing F8 or escape :)

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for your input. I will check and I will reconnect my hard drives so that the SSD is connected to first sata port.

At the moment I am in Germany on training, so I will try tomorrow evening when I get back to London.

There's a decent chance that windows decided to put it's boot loader on one of the hard drives, even though it was being installed to the ssd.

About the only sure way to stop this exciting feature of windows is to unplug every drive except for the one you want to install it onto, then format & install.

"These is no option for which hard drive is to be used first in the bios. " < I've never seen a bios that doesn't let you prioritise one hard drive over the others. Ever.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your input. I have now resolved this issue. It's my fault the SSD was plugged incorrectly. Therefore the bios was try boot from the 500GB hard drive 1st and not the SSD.
