Missing CDrom drive

I have installed Norton and now my CD drive is missing in 'My Computer', I have uninstalled Norton but it is still missing, I repaired the registry and also did a system restore but still nothing.
Anyone got any ideas as to how to get the drive back without formatting?

Does it show as a malfunctioning device in device manager? If so uninstall it and reboot.

Also, why on earth were you installing Norton? Asking for trouble that is.

Does the DVD drive still open and close and attempt to spin up at all or is it totally dead in the case too?

Did you reboot? and I mean reboot not log off and back on again.

Still opens and closes, did a reboot and still nothing.
