hi guys,

right this is really ******g me off now, i have a dell dimension 5000 with a gigabit network card in it that i got off ebay, it is a PCI e realtek one.

currently i have whs v1 installed on it. when i first installed it, the OS didnt recognise the card, but after some fiddling i managed to get it working.

now i have just moved my whole room around, and when everything was all back up and running, i managed to unplug the wrong plug and crash the servers ( :( ) when i booted it back up the network card was not recognized and has a yellow '!' on it in device manager.

I have tried all the realtek drivers i can find and whichever one i use it says 'Error This device could not start: Code 10' the card is definately working because it flashes on boot up, but then nothing

any ideas on what to do?

(sorry for sounding ****ed off, but i am cos its taken all day to move everthing around and now its stopped working for no reason)

cheers guys

just reseated the card in a different slot, no difference. Im pretty sure its something to do with windows because the green 'link' light is on during boot up but as soon as windows starts loading drivers it goes off, i dont think the socket is damaged as the link light on the switch is always on.

any other ideas?

ARGGHHHH! I have no literally tries every single driver i can find that has anything to do with the network card, now discovered that it is a Realtek RTL8168C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC

i stuck it into my pc which is running win 7 x64 and it worked immediately on plugging in so i know the card isnt dogey.....

any thoughts?

do you mean remove the card and then reinstall the driver? i have already uninstalled the driver and reinstalled it with no change :/

you will have to actually remove all the instances as it can re-install the corrupt version...
go into control panel and remove the driver using the uninstall option, reboot and see if it picks up the good version. you have to use the uninstall option in control panel. if not, it's possible that the registry and/or windows is also corrupt. run a scandisk on the boot drive to be on the safe side.

i dont think server 2003 (Which is what whs is based on has system restore? i can seem to find it if it does, just uninstalled the drivers and rebooted and made no difference :/

normally id say its gotta be something to do with the card but as it works in my pc its obviously not :/

so should i run chkdsk?

yep have tried to uninstall in safe mode, no different :/ might just get a new network card, cos i was looking to get a 4 port gigabit card anyway....
