missing hdd space

have a 1 tb drive with 400gb data on it but win 7 says there is 600 gb being used. Is there something i should be changing?

Check the drive with something like JDiskReport and see whats using all the space.

Have you checked your System Restore settings and Recycle Bin? That's probably where the majority of space is. Also your page file will be a gig or 2 in size.
