Missing out if I get Mass Effect 2 w/out having played the 1st one?

I'm playing through the first one at the moment :) Spent many hours on it when it first came out but never completed it. It's making me quite excited to play number 2!
 
I was initially not gonna bother playing through the first (I did on 360, but decided to get ME2 on PC) but I am glad I did.

So far I've bumped into various characters and had my decisions from the first discussed a few times. It's great having that extra layer of authenticity.

It also makes me want to playthrough the first again with different decisions, will do the same with the second.
 
Been re-playing the first one so that I know the backstory to the characters and the history. Have to admit like many others, it must be the thrid or fourth time that I'm playing Mass Effect. In the past I never managed to get past the Citadel as something else cropped up or I had another game I wanted to play. However, I finally got round to giving it a good play. I reckon I'm on the second from last mission and have done pretty much all the optional quests.

Have to admit, I've loved played Mass Effect, definitley in my top 10 games ever played and well worth playing before you play Mass Effect 2.....which is next on my play list :)
