Mistakes at work?

A colleague made a change to a system whereby short and long stock trades were accidentally reversed. A manager accidentally went long on a stock that was crashing, the broker reversed the trade within 30 seconds, but by that time they had already lost £46,000

Not a big deal...until it comes out of your bonus that is...

:(

Cool thread by the way!

:)

Once sent a lorry driver to the wrong part of the country he was delivering in. Yep, that was a fun phone conversation! :(

Luckily I was new and they didn't bother about it too much, even tho the lorry driver was absolutely furious.

Updated the order database by changing the all order status' to complete and costs to £0. there was a where clause in my sql statement, but this wasn't something I highlighted before hitting F5.

Pulled the tap off a stella pump on the bar, queue the whole bar being flooded by 3/4 of a barrel of stella... 0.o

I've just taken a shipment inspection exam and missed out a knife hidden in the rolled up hood of a jacket and a high explosive detonator in the inside pocket :(

Out of interest who do you work for? £46,000 is a lot to lose for someones mistakes, im surpised they didnt get the sack for it. But i suppose if the money gets taken from your bonus then that was a very expensive mistake

I once dropped a film at work, not a fun thing to do. Thankfully it wasn't due to be playing again but still had to spend the better part of a day putting the damn thing back together again which resulted in very sore arms.

I don't work for that company any more, it was a large asset management company.

It was a trivial amount relative to how many assets they had under management, but a lot in terms of an individual bonus...probably most of it...

I once copied some data about listing all child benefit claimants unencrypted to some cd's and posted them, via royal mail, and they got lost in the post. Fortunately no one noticed.

Oh how we had a good laugh about that one in the office.

Big mistake in my job during college – working as a till jockey in Woolworths, not long after the PS2 (possibly the PS) was released, I served a family with about 4 basket’s worth of goods for Xmas – running each through diligently (my first day) I failed to notice that I had to age verify a film; but the till was still happily beeping away unbeknownst to me not adding the subsequent items onto the bill.

Grand total for a shiny new Playstation (1 or 2….. damn you memory) and about 3.5 baskets worth of goods…. about £30  They even checked I had the total right before hurrying along leaving me feeling a new sense of dread!

Big mistake in my last but one job – err, messing about with a colleague’s log on to NT, after convincing him he did indeed log off and reboot (shift change) - I simply switched the monitor over to a Unix server that I was booting up (:D), opening his Outlook and knocking up a ‘hilarious’ email to the head of the IT sector; basically an invite to a bit of wife swapping… accidentally clicking send and not know that you could recall messages before hurriedly shutting off the box :(

Needles to say I lost that job.

While running network cables in our new office through the hanging ceiling I managed to collapse half the offices ceiling in on itself, then broke the ladder.

Bad photos taken by my friend who's no photographer:

Basically everything in that second picture had come down, luckily we found a load of spare tiles in the boiler room

Only been working half a year but managed to spray myself in the face with water on a golf course when testing the sprinklers, I opened the hose point with my face leaning right over instead of opening the gate valve. I felt like such a n00b.

Nothing really. When I was a travel agent I booked a 7 night holiday for a woman who thought she was booking a 14 night holiday (no wonder she thought it was cheap) but when we listened to the call later it turned out I had advised her all the details, she just wasn't paying attention and hence had a bit of a shock when the confirmation came through the post.

I broke the offices mail franking machine by accident by leaving it upside down on a table (don't ask why). The red ink spewed all over the table when I righted it the correct way up, some may say I was caught "red handed", literally.

Not made any HUGE mistakes.....

......Still time though.....

When i used to work for asda warehouse, picking orders and stacking them onto pallets, i was about to wrap both of the pallets then they collapsed onto each other, pretty much breaking 2 full pallets of various alcoholic spirits :(
