Started looking at a new PC build 1-2 months ago but decided to hold off getting one built around a 4080S and instead waited to see what the 5000 cards were all about.

Now the 5000 cards are out of stock and so are the 4080

I think next time anything is in stock I'll just take the plunge, I'm not a super PC enthusiast, I just need an upgrade after 4+ years of my current build :)

Might as well wait for the AMD cards at this point, only a few weeks :D
Forever waiting for new tech

Ever since I started looking I swear my old PC is getting worse and worse.

Not sure if it actually is or I'm telling myself it is...

Are 4080s likely to come back into stock or am I stuck waiting for 5000 series cards at this point? Just want to get something built!

I would guess that 4000 series cards are mostly gone at this point, since the 5080 has replaced them at that price point, but that's based on nothing at all.

On balance think I was lucky getting a 4080 Super when I did - which I only did due to having vouchers I needed to use and not interested in anything else from the retailer I had the vouchers for, plus at least out of my pocket saving £200 on the retail price. I was sort of planning on hanging onto my 3070 until the 5080 came along.

So probably a while until I can get a brand new card then, I'm sure people are constantly refreshing the 5 series cards.

New PC might still be a while off...

From what I'm aware, the 5080 is coming back in stock faster than the 5090, but the price premium on them is too high in many places, since they're supposed to be replacing the 4080, not the 4090.

Bit concerning if a GPU needs replacing or building another machine, etc. the availability at the moment is rubbish.

If you have to RMA a 4080 at the moment you are probably either in for a long wait for a refund, maybe partial, which doesn't help you much if you need a GPU.

Buying kit and not using it for weeks is a problem if you have problems. After 14 days it will have to go through a RMA process. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong.

Silver linings...

Built a new PC, ready for 5080 and plan was to give current PC to my boys.

With no 5080 on the horizon (I will only get it at or around MSRP!) I was finally forced to repairing an old GPU so that the boys PC was functional and transferred my current GPU to the new build.

I guess that is a sort of positive outcome :p

Depends on the retailer, but 2-4 weeks is usually the max you get for immediate replacement from stock or a cash refund. In some cases, they will offer that for 6 months, but usually you're looking at a lengthy RMA.

A solid choice. I would have bought one if I hadn’t picked up a 7900XTX just before release.
