Mixer Showers

I'm finally getting around to replacing my crappy electric shower (some el cheapo low kw Triton thing the previous owners had put in). It's OK in the summer months but when the temperature drops, the flow rate reduces to a tiny trickle.

I've currently got a combi boiler and was thinking that instead of going for a higher kw electric shower and having to get an electrician into rewire, I'd go for a mixer shower and do it myself. However I'm having trouble finding out if my boiler is up to the job. I don't want to swap it out and find it's no better than my current electric one.

The boiler is a Main Combi 24he capable of 11.5l/min at 30C rise and 9.8l/min at 35C rise. Is this going to be enough?

We have a mixer shower with a pump fed from a hot water tank and as we have been thinking of moving from a conventional to combi boiler I've been measuring the flow rate around the house to gauge what the change may be.

Our current shower works perfectly well and chucks out water at around 9-10 liters a minute, so your combi should be able to match that, depending on how cold the water is and how hot you like the shower. Rember to make sure no one else turns on a hot tap while you're in the shower though as it'll go cold!

The boiler we've been looking at is a combi with a small integrated tank, significantly increasing the potential water flow for the first 10 mins. It's a valiant 937, and should be able to deliver 20 l/min for 10 minutes - more than enough for a good shower. Could be a good one to investigate if you're looking for a boiler change in the future.

That's good to know, thanks! I'm the only person in my house so no danger of someone else turning at tap on currently!

Those Aqualisa showers do look quite good, definitely added them to my shortlist! :D

Consider the Mira Platinum as well if your looking at digital showers, I installed one a few months back.

Suitable for Combi Boilers & Unvented only.
Thermostatic temperature stability keeps showering safe for all the family.
Wireless controller that can be located up to 10 metres away from the shower valve.

Can be rear fed & ceiling fed.
And it can be connected to a 3amp fused spur.:)

Thanks,perfect, just what I wanted.
