Hi all,

Looking for some general advice on the use of 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 2133MHz Memory Modules with 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz Memory Modules.

Is the mixing of memory modules a good/bad idea?

My motherboard (Asus Maximus VI Formula) has 2 slots for channel A and 2 for channel B. What is the best configuration for the memory? Both 2133MHz modules on one channel or split between both channels?

Please excuse my ignorance here

mixing memory is generally ok, although sometimes it may cause random issues.

it will downclock to match the slowest speed, in your case 1600MHz.

tbh, unless you REALLY need 16GB, I'd just stick with 2x4GB 2133MHz.

It seems that the mixed memory was holding me back from overclocking the computer. Whenever I tried overclocking it previously, the system wouldn't boot, failing on memory. Now that I have removed the 1600MHz memory, I can overclock without any issues :)

This is one the reasons why we do not officially support mixing RAMs - It's always a hit and miss. Although, many of us have done this in the past with no problems, as long that you are tuning your BIOS correctly. But from time to time we would see cases where as soon that they put two sets of RAM, system wouldn't even POST, especially when you combine two sets of RAM that have two different parts #s/rated speed.

As above, mixing memory can be done but it 'may' cause a variety of issues including hampering overclocking.
