Wife was driving around all day but came to leave Morrisons and the brake pedal went straight to the floor. She had to use the handbrake to stop.

I turned up and phoned the RAC came within 20 minutes.
Topped the brake fluid back up pumped the brake and it poured out under the car, one of the metal pipes has split.

I'm amazed it leaves you with zero brakes I always thought they worked on a split system so a leak somewhere leaves you with two wheels that will brake. No light on dash either for empty fluid.

Good job she wasn't on the motorway.

It’s not ‘the end’ though is it? Not new car time.
I have a mk1 as well and apart from an early clutch replacement (suspect previous owners riding it) it’s been solid.

We want to replace it with something newer but only when it starts costing too much to maintain.
See what the garage come back with. A bit of copper brake pipe fitted can't be that much.

Once the Mondeo is paid for she can have a newer car. The focus is fine but it has no AC and it wasn't fun with the baby last year.

I guess the other pipes were examined and found satisfactory but it's inevitable they'll start to go at some point.

I got 145k out of my mk 1.5 before she became uneconomical to keep running
