Hi, could somebody give me a decent idea of the 0-60 of a Golf GTi thats done 120k miles (A reg).

Went down to the disused air strip yesterday and did some 0-60 runs me in my VTR and my friend in his mk1 Golf GTI.

It's fairly level.....depending on how well I shift there is literally no difference between the cars upto 100mph then I take the lead.

I reckon it does 0-60 in the late 8's early 9's but he reckons that it's 9.5 and that my Saxo should beat it 0-60.

My friend in his 55 plate 1.4 Clio (100bhp) believe his is faster than the Golf. My bum cheeks is it :p

Mk1 Golf GTI 1982, 8.2 seconds to 0-60, 112Bhp, a top speed of 122 Mph
Thats the specs new, at 120k its obviously going to be less but should still make 0-60 in under 9 secs.

The 1.4 Clio, depending on which model, will have a 0-60 time of somewhere between 10.2 and 11.7
Golf should comfortably beat it :)

1.6 GTi

0-60 = 9.0
standing 1/4mile = 16.9
top speed = 111mph
110bhp @ 6100rpm
101lb/ft @ 5000rpm
4 gears

1.8 GTi

0-60 = 8.3
standing 1/4 mile = 16.2
top speed = 113mph
112bhp @ 5800rpm
109bhp @ 3500rpm
5 gears

The figures Saitrix quotes look about right to me. Anyway, who cares about numbers, the Golf GTI is all about being a hoot to drive, which it is :)

It is indeed........when it is on the road.

It has been my mates dads for 21 years now and then he handed it over to his son (my mate).

I needed work doing to it as it was used for rallying etc and had took some mechanical beatings.

It has done 120k and is 23 years old and parts are a problem to locate. He had problems locating a rear brake distributor or something its for weight load i'm not sure what it was now. This part is no longer available and when it fails, it could well be curtains for the old girl.

The parts you can source, are also rather expensive as they are from VAG.

To a girl or a non motoring boy it's an A reg banger. To us, it's one of, or even the best hot hatch ever made!

Has he checked on http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php and made a wanted thread?

Finding bits on there for my Mk2 Golf at the moment :)

What do you need I will have a spare Mk2 Golf GTi in a few days!

ClubGTi is a good source of info for what alternative parts can be used on a Mk1, lots of people have restored Mk1s so they must be getting the parts from somewhere?

If you cant find a brake pressure regulator a manual bias valve could be used like I've done on my Mk2.

Hi there, he's got a current problem on his MK1 Golf that he cannot find to fix.

It's a whiring noise (consistent) from 20mph + when the engine is just ticking over (coasting). If he puts his foot on the gas it goes away. If he turns the engine off it continues to do it in or out of gear. It's only just started doing it so his attitude atm is "i'll drive it till it breaks".

He's checked literally everything at the front end of the car as thats where it sounds like it's coming from and everything looks in decent condition.

Any idea's what the problem could be?

Wheel bearing probably, get him to jack the wheels up one by one and check for play by grabbing the top and bottom of the wheel and seeing if he can move them.
