Basically thinking of getting a MK4 Golf Gti 1.8T
Anyone had one or know what they are like ???

Thanks

they arent great.....get a Bora, same car, cheaper to buy, handles better, could possibly be less to insure cos it has a sport badge instead of a GTI badge.

If you don't mind going for a saloon, the Bora 1.8T Sport is a great choice.

1.8T is a nice car to drive - how people can say that it's not 'quick' i'll never know.
150bhp as standard, but if you get the obligatory remap, then you're up to 198/203bhp depending on the model.

They've got nice interiors and if you can get hold of an anniversary one, they look great too.

Go and test drive one before you let peoples comments put you off.

Yes why not, you pay over the top for them and you get a cruddy engine with no go.

Yes I hate VW :p

Care to elaborate on how the engine is "cruddy" ?

This time with your prejudices towards VW held back.

How do you know how much im gonna be paying for it
Am going to be test driving one tomorrow hopefully just wanted a few sensible opinions first

I'll give my opinion, I have a Mk4 V5 with roughly the same perfomance as a 1.8T 180bhp model, I've owned it 4 years. Very comfortable to drive, cloth seats are well shaped and anchor you very snugly in the driving position, stock suspension is a bit soft leading to a bit of roll if you try and chuck it around a corner, but this is easily rectified with a set of sports springs, oh and superb speakers too ;)

Mk4s have a few niggly interior faults that are easily sorted with a bit of know how, but if you want a nice moderately fast comfy family hatch that looks nice and cruises well, give it a test drive.

1.8 T is a crackng engine, forged pistons as standard, IHI it and you can get lots of power from it :)

I thought that was only the 225 1.8Ts with forged pistons or is it a forged crank(i cant remember now)
