MK4 Golf Rear brake piston woes

Al sorted, rewind tool was a n go.

however a mahooosive g clamp combined with a pliers did the job perfectly!

New discs and pads fitted and SILENT :D

Now to diagnose why's shes drinking oil :(

From my experience, these engines like a good drink of oil, didn't help that mine had a crack in the dipstick tube, then decided to vomit oil from it!

Sponginess in brakes...

Hi All, I just thought I would resurrect this topic as my questions relate directly to it...

I just changed rear pads both sides, the Drivers side piston was a little stiffer than it should have been so I opened the bleed nipple on the caliper to release a little pressure. Job done, back on and sorted.

Auto set the calipers by ratcheting the handbrake and then started her up for a test drive. Now there's a lot of travel on the foot brake and it only feels "normal" after pumping it up a few times. Leave it a few seconds, and it travels again.

I guess my question is does the whole system now need to be bled or can I get away with just bleeding that one caliper?

Any suggestions very welcome. Cheers, Dave

Sounds like you have got air in the system when you opened the bleed screw. Better method is to take the cap off the fluid resevoiur. You might get away with just bleeding that caliper or just that diagonal circuit. Otherwise all 4 will need bled
