Mk4 Mondeo 2.5T - Steering Malfunction on Dash

Sounds good to me mate - looks like the garage won't be open when I finish work so I'll give it a shot.

Damn, sorry to hear that. When's the MOT due?

If you let me have your addy over xmas I'll get the device in the post to you so you get asap mate.

The dash error has vanished

I've not managed to find anything 100% conclusive as to the actual cause to this but I did read it could be linked to the steering lock. I've made sure when parking the car the steering wheel is off centre and the lock hasn't engaged. Not sure if this has made any difference but when I got into the car this morning, the malfunction has gone.

Maybe the guy at the garage was right...software glitch!

When mine started to die I'd get "Engine Malfunction" and then "Steering Assist Failure" for a few seconds under the alternator picked up.

My A4 has done this twice now, although it's always happened when start-stop kicks in whilst turning the wheel. This would lead me to believe that it's electrical power related.

The Focus ST had a known fault that could occur with the steering rack. I'm not sure if the Mondeo ST can get it too. Get it checked because if it is that, it's expensive to fix!

When I part-exed my ST it was one of the things they checked before making a deal.

But yea, a flat/dying battery kicks up all kinds of error lights on these cars (except for a battery warning light, derp). They should clear once you recharge or replace it.

What android software would you recommend I use for reading/clearing the codes? Anything specific? Proven to be stable/working?

Hi steering assist malfunction warning light has come on my Ford Focus 2011 ,usually happens a few times a month and the car is almost impossible to steer ,if you turn the car off and then on the problem sorts it self out ,I have taken it to a ford garage and they say they could not diagnose a fault but if it happens again the steering rack and pscm will need to be replaced ,is this right ?can The module be changed without changing the rack ?i woul be grateful if any has any advice .I changed the battery but that didn’t work

Wow 35k nice. I've just ticked over 110k on my Tit X 2.5T

There was a lot of talk on talk ford forums about dodgy steering racks on the 07 and 08 models. I haven't had any issues but some of the owners had. Not sure they mentioned that light warning issue you had either.

Edit: now realise this threads been necro'd. I wonder if OP still has his 2.5T?

Check the age of the battery and replace if necessary, the cold weather finishes off older ones.

That was a long time ago, I no longer have it but wish I'd kept it :(

What colour was yours because my wife hates mine cos she thinks it's a grandad car. It's the thunder grey colour. I am beyond caring much for it now. 2 people have taken the car out whilst it's been parked, no witnesses and no details left. So it just gets driven around as and when (I get train to work) and gets a service every now and then.

It was burnt orange. I've checked the dvla site and it's still being driven, taxed and MOTd.
