howdy.

got a 1999 Polo 1.4 CL, it's playing up when cold. Hesitant, juddery when cold - struggles to start. Once warmed up, turn it off, then back on and it's 100% fine.

It's sat on the drive now cooling down, plan to unplug the coolant temperature sensor and start it without it plugged in to see what it does then.

Does anyone know what resistance it should be at cold, and at hot? I've noticed it's a 4 pin sensor, not too familar with VW - am assuming it's a sensor for the ECU and for the dash gauge all in one, hence the two connections.

Anyone know much about them?

No idea on the resistor values but we had the exact same symptoms on our 1.4 mk4 Polo and it was perfect after a new temp sensor :)

Same for my gf's parents 1.4 Polo, must be a fairly common fault.

cool, cheers. does sound like i'm right in thinking the sensor then. wanted to check it before replacing, just to be sure. can you remember how much the part was? Will probably just pop to unipart and get one tomorrow tbh

I recently changed the temp sensor on the Gfs Lupo (AUB engine) I think it was about £25 from VW. Takes 2 mins to change, you will need a pint or so of coolant, depeding on how quick you are!
