Hi Guys,

Looking for a bit of advice here.

I drive an 03 Fiesta LX 1.25 16V. I only seem to be getting about 60 miles from £10 petrol (fuel light coming on > £10 > fuel light on again ~60miles on the clock)

This is all town driving with just me in the car 90% of the time, I don't expect manufacturers quoted figures but I thought it would achieve more than that.

Recently did a trip 210 mile round trip all motorway / A road probably averaging around 75mph and this cost around £25-30 in petrol so working with £10 as about 2 gallons thats about 5-6 gallons of petrol which is 33-40mpg on the motorway...?

Maybe my calculations are wrong or maybe I expect too much from the car, can anyone shed any light?

Cheers

i used to have a Y reg (2001) fiesta 1.25 16v and could fill the tank up on about £30 of petrol when the reserve came on and was getting about 240 - 260 miles out of that.

Hope that helps.

It doesnt seem right tho:confused:

Conflicting opinions here then, what about the longer trip though that seems rather low to say Ford quote 50+ mpg on the motorway etc.

Town driving dramatically increases fuel consumption. 50+mpg is very likely possible at a constant speed on a long journey with minimal headwind etc. but in traffic where you are constantly braking and accelerating those figures are meaningless.

reasonable? I can fill my fiesta st on £40 and get about 260 out of that.

So that works out at £10 for 65 miles.........

Therer is no way you should only get 60 miles for a tenner mate.

my mate drives a ST and compains he only gets 160 from his full tank... i keep telling him its his driving style but he doesnt believe me.....

(driving style, full throttle, full brakes, full throttle, full brakes)

Harsh accelerating and braking = poor mpg
Gentle and smooth accelerating + less braking = better mpg

Also don't drive too closely behind any vehicle so that you don't need to brake often.

the most carefull driving i still only net 300miles a tank (45litres)

yep I used to average about 35mpg on my 1.25 06 fiesta, town driving, a and b roads included. 45mpg on motorway.
