Hi all.

I would just like to share an experience with you all.

I put an Intel 990X on the MM at £300 which I thought was a fair price??

Any how a few shows of interest from fellow MM users but no sale.

So I listed it on the selling site that we all know and it sold for £440.

I just goes to show that the expectations of MM users is to get items for less than the going rate.

Be warned.

Matt

How much did you get after fees and things tho. Plus on ebay youre risking getting scammed.

And if you dont like MM then you dont have to use it :)

I did not say that I disliked the MM. That's why I treid to sell the cpu on there.

Ebay fees are 3% and the buyer paid instantly.

It's less that people expect to pay less than the going rate and more people on Ebay will pay stupid amounts for things thinking they got a bargain because they bought it from Ebay.

Ebay is a very risky place to buy from. I wouldnt go in that shark infested pool

Dosent remove the risk of being scammed tho :)

no more so than the members market.

There are risks involved with all second hand buys, whether you accept these risks or not is down to the individual.

10 years I have been using ebay now and never had a problem. 5 years using the MM and no issues there either, but the risk is still ever present

Selling Fees are over 10%
Paypal Fee's are what 3.2% +0.20p
Hassle of eBay

I prefer to deal with guys on here tbh.
Hope you took a pic of all serials and such just in case.

Prices reflect where the risk lies.

Classifieds - buyer takes the risk and leap of faith
eBay - buyer protected (beyond acceptable levels in some cases, often punishing honest sellers)

the biggest factor in ebay is you have a pool of millions of users, and possibly 10's / 100's /100's of people who want the item, on MM you have a pool of 100's with possibly no one that wants the item...

Maybe just no one in the MM was in the market for the 990X when it was listed. Public auction sites have a wider audience hence you can sell ya mum if you wanted.

I reckon women would sell quite well in the MM to be honest :D I'll get the misses prepped for when that rule change comes in.

With the MM you have almost a zero chance of getting scammed. I say almost, because there's been one or two rather famous instances on there :p

I'm not a shop, anyone?

On the bay you can get screwed royally because of how paypal sides with the buyer.

Unfortunately I can't use the MM yet but I have been using Ebay for years without any issues. I've had some some real bargains on there but I always shop around first. Providing you believe you don't get anything for nothing, you know how to spot a scam and you read everything thoroughly there are very few risks. You could even mark cheque only if using Paypal isn't your thing (pretty sure you can still do this). I have received cheques in the past and always ask the buyer to allow a few days for clearing.

I have used Ebay for many years aswell as MM.

When i have anything to buy or sell i use them both for different things.

I would NOT sell high end goods on eBay as i got scammed selling my iPhone4 and it took me an age to get my money back (less postage costs :()

MM i would not hesitate selling goods to anyone with good trust.

Ebay payers pay over the going rate. Always have. You get loads of trigger happy noobs on there, though I now avoid it at all costs due to the number of scammers.

I have sold GPU's in the past on there for more than they cost new. Work that one out.

Even cleared cheques can be cancelled months later.
