MMORPG N00b

Play wow.

*Dangles a freshly sealed copy in front with an evil laugh*

Remember to lock your door, close the curtains and tell your family, friends, work, that they might never see you again.

there is EVE but for new players its so hard now, plus the nerfed virtually every weapon in the game :(

This isn't true. And if it was it would make no difference anyway. People complained battles were too short so they increased ship hp to make them longer. A good change imo. If ALL the weapons are nerfed then everyone is at the same level and there is no problem.

Also there is plenty of potential for new players. Ive been playing 7 months now but all through my time in my corp I have been useful be it hauling for a mining op or simply paying taxes through missions. We are just moving into 0.0 and I am assistant director of pos operations. Yes the learning curve is steep but there is a lot for a new player to do, and i havent even mentioned the pvp posibilities with a frigate or ew in a blackbird yet....

one other thing with the weapons been modified is that you can attack with a battleship but youll only get even attacks if your attacking another battleship, damage is damage, whether its a battleship or a frigate

Id suggest trying wow trial as its a very noob friendly mmorpg and if you like it then you can subscribe, I found guild wars very boring.

omg some 1 has no clue :) what your asking for just would not work every 1 would be flying the biggest ship possible which would make for a boring game

Go for the WoW free trial.

I found Guild Wars Insanely boring.
Having the whole game instanced is no fun what so ever.

I bought Guild Wars in the hope that it would stop me playing WoW and costing me cash. Turned out to be a waste of £30. Should have put it towards another 3 months WoW subs.

Either way, whatever you buy will require a fair bit of play time to get to grips with, so don't give up on it too early. These aren't linear point and shoot games.

MMORPGs are great if you're willing to go the whole hog, play for several hours a time several times a week and forego pretty much all other gaming and entertainment to keep the habit going.

You do have to put the effort in and get involved in a good guild with plenty of other players your level that you get on with in order to make the most of it though. I played WoW for a couple of months and would highly recommend it unless, like me, you don't have the time or dedication to put in.

Very true, like most mmorpgs these days, they are good for the casual gamer until you reach the high-end content. At which point it's all about the raiding and that requires commitment.

There's always http://www.vanguardsoh.com/ currently in Beta 2 with an expected further 2 phases.

I'm going to be looking out for this one. In my opinion nothing ever came close to Everquest, which was my first proper mmorpg, i've tried lots of others, AO, EQ2, Eve, coh etc but what spoils it these days is the lack of mystery and exploration, It's all on spolier sites, usually while the games were still in beta!

This may be rather out of date but I still played Everquest 1.
I started playing about 3 months after it was released (how new and original it was then).
I've had a few breaks (recently a 8 month break). But I've really got back into it.
Socially i started using skype with people i was grouped with, did some high end raiding and now the people i live with play it, so the social aspect will be huge.

I do cnfess though that when stargate goes live (quite a way away) i'll be jumping ship.

I think with these things once you start, and get hooked, there's not much that will pull you away and seem right

Hence i'm stared of WoW, EQ2 and guildwars :p

I play Flyff as its legit and free. Just sign up download the game and install it and your off.

I'm in the same position as you and have just finished the 10 day trial on WOW.

I like the physics, the story and the feel of the game, I don't like the grind. I don't feel I could play it casually, it's either a life devotion or not bother thing.

I'm at the stage where you ahve to play for 2-3 hours to do anything worthwhile i.e. find a group go on a big long quest. If you played for an hour or so at a time I can' see myself making headway!

Well,I am now definitely considering Guild Wars:Factions, but Im not sure whether or not to go for factions, or the original guild wars? Any thoughts?

A tough one to answer as apart from the beta it hasn't been played by anyone yet. I invested a lot of time last Summer in the original, and its quite a nice area. Of course I imagine that the Factions realm will be even nicer.

So my post is of no help at all really :D
