MMOs

I'm very happy with GW2, and being B2P means you don't feel you have to play like with sub-based games, and it doesn't impede progression with pay-walls like many F2P games do.

I like GW2 and will definately be playing it again soon now that its anstalled on my machine again (new hard drive).

I felt GW2 could have been something great, but the lack of defined roles in groups made dungeons etc feel like a clusterf*ck.

I didn't feel there really was any end game other than WvW, but I didn't exactly look closely, what progression is there to go for in the game?

What you say is exactly what I found with GW2, I loved levelling, but endgame felt a bit dead end.

WoW is a very Marmite game. and I am on the hating side of it sadly. Just couldn't get into it. Not because its crap, but because I found it dull and repetitive. It's really down to personal taste, worth a try if they are stil giving away free trials to see if its really for you

You could say that about each MMO though. In every MMO you grind out questing and killing mobs.

All MMOs are repetitive, thats the psychology behind the addiction.

yeah but some MMOs are just dross, atleast to the masses, take ESO prommised to be fantastic and innovative andyet, full of *** according to 90% of all who played, total flop.

I think, in order to make the genre more interesting, developers need to think outside of sticking to the WoW model and create something more unique.

I believe that is the problem, developers do not know where to go next. They know the WoW model worked so well, but is now becoming old and stale.

Take Wild Star for example, essentially still a copy of WoW, a bit more modern, but still near enough the same concept. People will say "oh but it has awesome new dungeons" its still the same model, just remade.

Whoever comes up with a brand new and innovative model for MMOs will be in the $$$

I am hearing a lot of good things about Blade and Soul, but we will have to wait for that to be released here.

GW2 changed a number of MMO staples (not having to collect and return quests is friggin awesome), and even did away with the Holy Trinity, yet you cannot please everyone, someone will ALWAYS have something to moan about.

I think the Holy Trinity, or more specifically - Group Roles, is a very very important aspect of an MMO.

You cannot design meaningful Dungeon/Raid content without defined roles. Well, you can - But it sucks for team play orientated gaming.

I have actually been looking for a decent holy trinity MMO to play myself, I have always been a healing type player and people love me for it in STO but was looking for a more adventurey MMO as opposed to SCI FI. Is there such a thing, please don't suggest WoW,

Same as me thats exactly what i was after, i may just stick on Secret World again i am not sure!
The choices arent good and i am not paying that much for a Alpha or Beta of Archeage who pays to test a game???????????????????????????

I have to agree, I've always preferred to be a tank/support/healer in any co-op game I play.

So as much as I enjoy GW2, I do feel like it's all about the DPS, with the odd situational, weapon-based profession skill here and there.

I run a Hammer Guardian with my guild. The symbol of protection is a very good thing for the team, but when I tried to trait specifically for symbols (increase size, duration, and add a heal to them) and used toughness/healing gear, it was of overall detriment to the team.
Turns out running DPS (zerker) gear, and using the hammer pretty much just for the protection symbol and taking just a few points in each trait line works out way better.

For most professions, going balls deep in to a single trait line specialization is a bad idea, and that stifles creativity and creates the cookie-cutter scenario we see so often in MMOs.

Even with that though, I'm still preferring it to the old-school MMO style games.

Must admit that Archeage certainly curve-balled me, the missus and I both got alpha accounts and its pretty much all we have played ever since. There is just SO much to do in the game and it has an abundance of game features which other MMOs simply don't have. Certainly if open /semi-open PvP mmos are your thing, Archeage is one you should have an eye on.

Hi, is it PVP only? or does it have a PVE side as well?

There is a pve element, not sure how much content trion are going to add but there wasn't a huge amount of traditional 'pve' - end game was very limited in the Korean release. One or two open world raids I think? Questing is traditional ! Style and lots of it whilst levelling though.

This, the pve is pretty similar to UOs in regard to its scope, its not a game I would recommend for someone looking for a lot of pve content.
