Moana (2026)

Part of me thinks that, of all the Disney films due a remake, this is not it. Then again they don't have too long to do it or Dwayne Johnson will really be getting on too much for it to work, and Maui really won't be the same without him. Either way I'm happy, it was the first story my daughter really connected with so she'll love it.

These are hit and miss.
I know, I know they are just rehashes.

But some of the classics have been so good to watch.

Little mermaid was really good. I thought the songs/singing were better than the original (the original is ancient though now).

As someone who loves the sea, no doubt I will see this! Although it is the sea that does all the work not moana! :D

I couldn't sit through more than 15 minutes of the Little Mermaid remake. I think the original songs are so indelibly burnt into my memory that hearing a different version makes me feel seasick.
Also, 34 years between the Little Mermaid and the live action version didn't raise any flags, 25 years for Lion King felt okay, but 10 years for Moana feels a little cash-grabby, especially when Moana 2 released barely a year ago.

Of all the live action remakes the only 1 I thought was passable was Aladdin, thought Will Smith was a great replacement for Robin Williams, the rest have been utter garbage and they aren't helped by Disney trying to pander to the "this age people" by slipping in minorities etc. there where simply not required

I really liked it. It's been so long since I saw the original it didn't feel like a "repeat".

Moana definitely is much much more recent. Can't believe it's 10 years though? That is crazy!

I adored the how to train your dragon dream works remake though. And it was nearly a like for like rehash! :D

More Disney slop

Honestly, with the amount of creativity bankrupt slop being sharted out by Hollyweird these days, it's no wonder nobody goes to the cinema anymore.

Whhhhhhy.

You just have to say ‘no’ to these things, including watching them on streaming ‘just because’.

You're right, there is no point watching a live action one even for my daughter. She knows the story, it won't actually be providing anything more than just watching the original would, aside from confusion.

Do Disney not employ anybody with creativity and imagination any more??

Constantly just rehashing previously released films. I do get the idea behind some re-releasing, Dumbo could do with a freshen up as watching it now the sound hurts my ears and the animation is a tad blurry, but this is to be expected considering the age of it (1941) but I think it would be rather rubbish as a live action remake. Moana was only released in 2916, I dont think it warrants a re-release, and as a live action remake, cringe. If I'm honest, the only live action I felt was any good was the beauty and the beast.

I remember reading an article regarding the perception of time as you age shifting not so long back, this really makes me think of it because I could have sworn the original only came out a couple of years back.

I'm pretty indifferent to this either way, but it kinda feels like Disney is testing the waters to double dip with ever shortening gaps between the animated and live action releases. Moana 2 raked in over a billion worldwide and came out last year, I wouldn't be surprised if it gets the live action treatment very quickly if this does well.

Honestly I agree with most of what you said… but I’m far more concerned about how you managed to see Moana in 2916.
Was it shown on a hologram reef or did the robots finally perfect time-travel cinema? Either way, please report back from the future — do they ever stop making remakes?

You write this as if you’re not aware that there IS a live action remake of dumbo :p

How many black and white people do you reckon are going to make their way into this film? There might be a few black actors but I would put a chunk of change that we won't see any white actors. Obviously it makes complete sense that there wouldn't be any but that doesn't seem to hold any weight when its the other way around.
