If anyone here is using a T-Mobile USB dongle to get mobile broadband on their laptop, I'd really appreciate your thoughts on the service, including:

- What is your overall perception of network performance. Do you think T-Mobile can provide good network performance in a large number of locations? How about in major cities?

- How good is the connection software on the laptop?

- What have your experiences of T-Mobile customer service been like?

Thanks for any comments.

Rgds

I've been with T-Mobile using Web'N'Walk on my HSDPA phone for close to a year. I normally get 1.5-2Mb connections and unless I'm inside the middle of a massive building I've yet to see it drop from HSDPA back to GRPS (except on the M4 near Swindon).

They certainly beat the pants off O2 whos HSDPA service was a joke.

I have recently gone and got myself a little Toshiba NB100 for "FREE" on the T-Mobile usb dongle contract.. And im very happy with it so far. Locations all over london including the major airports...Heathrow/Gatwick/Stansted

Been connected at minimum 3.6mb/sec indicated in the web&walk connection software, and had no drops. The actual connection software provided is quite nice as it gives you all your up/down traffic info, so you can keep an eye on what your using.

Ive just noticed that T-Mobile have an adult content filter that requires me to enter a credit card to confirm my age! (not sure I like that idea yet).

Happy enough so far, but early days on the reliability front for me.

Orange Mobile Broadband Experiences

I'd be really grateful if those using Orange Mobile Broadband on their laptops could tell me what they think of it.

- What is general network performance like?

- How good is the connection software for the USB modem?

- What is customer support like?

Many thanks for any comments.

T-Mobile USB Dongle my experiances.....

Out of the box the likes of Facebook etc are all blocked, you need to phone T-Mobile to get it lifted.

Software is great, no problems there.

Connection speeds have never exceeded 56k! Yup mobile broadband with dial up speeds. Im not sure if this is something else that needs a call to T-Mobile to sort out, maybe they cap the connection speeds or something.

Off topic, but did your NB100 come with a recovery DVD or an option to create one. Mine didnt have either and toshiba insist it did

- What is general network performance like? Excellent usually, can get HSDPA in most areas I've been to. However the whole network has gone down on 3 separate occasions, the first being for a whole 24 hrs (System downtime as confirmed by Orange)

- How good is the connection software for the USB modem? Utter rubbish, usually when I plug the dongle in a reboot of the laptop is needed for it to recognise the connection, I initially thought this was due to hibernation kicking in, but after investigating it happens 9/10 times I plug the dongle in. Also the installation took several reboots.

- What is customer support like? I've only called twice, the staff were helpful on both occasions.

I've had both orange and tmobile solutions with work and the Tmobile offering is much better imo. better coverage, better overall speeds and better customer service.

O2 Mobile Broadband Experiences Please

Hi All

I'd like to hear about your experiences of O2 Mobile Broadband. What's general network performance like? What is customer service like?

Thanks All :D

I've had terrible experiences with 3 mobile broadband, using various different dongles.

It simply doesn't work in any of the places I'd actually want to use it, even when there is excellent signal. Despite a claimed 3.6mbit connection, the download speeds are absolutely terrible and the connection often drops out.

I believe this is because they are overselling the service when they don't have the necessary capacity, so even when you have good radio reception there is a loading issue. Out of interest, where were you trying to use it?

Thanks
