Hi guys, I've just sold my Vodafone branded HTC Magic to a mate who is on Orange, the phone accepts the sim just fine and the lock screen even says Orange network, no problems there.

However what I'm having difficulty with is getting the internet working on the phone. On the status bar it is not showing any data connection. I've enabled data in the settings and made sure 2G networks only is unchecked. In the network operators tab (stock 2.2) there is an option of 'Orange' or 'Orange T-Mobile', selecting Orange seems to be fine but again no mobile internet but strangely clicking Orange/T-Mobile it says unable to connect to the network at the time.

Help me out guys!

What APNs is it using for internet access? You may have to set them manually.

Just seen there are no APN's setup!

Did a quick google search which brought up these settings:

Android APN and Data Settings for Orange UK

I have put the settings below however if you find that they are not working , then just dial 156 to get to the support team for settings-(and let me know via comment so I can update this post)
Go to settings -> wireless controls
Go to Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names
Make sure you select and delete each APN on the list.
Click Menu and select New APN
Use the following settings:
Name = Orange Internet
APN = orangeinternet (case sensitive)
MCC:234
MNC:33
APN Type: default
Ignore everything else and leave it as <Not set>
Then press menu and save and then turn off the phone and restart and you are done!
Market should be working, email working and your browser is now working!

Set it all up and it's working now but just seems really slow? the data symbol up top is showing a 'E'. Thanks for the quick reply though pal :)

The orange network has been having some issues with data connection yesterday, as in couldnt connect to it at all, think it might still be on going my data connection has been flakey today.

No problem, glad to help :)

E is Edge which is pretty slow. As it stands, speed goes:

G -> E -> 3G -> H

Odd that it was on edge connection then, sat in the same spot with Voda I was on HSDPA! Will have to do a bit more testing.

Networks don't all share the same masts, if one place is HSDPA for Voda it's no guarantee that Orange will do HSDPA there too sorry.

Oh I understand that however the place I was at I would've expected at minimum a 3G signal, I'll have to see if any of my friends are on Orange that can help me test the speeds around there.
