So you will have BT owning a mobile network as well as the infrastructure used by ALL networks to pipe calls to landlines... The conspiracy theorists will have a field day
Except they don't, as VM provide a significant amount of the mobile phone backhaul, as do Vodafone (formally C&W).

Cellnet was a joint venture between BT and Securicor.
It's really sad to see how the Spanish have mis-managed and profit-stripped the various O2 networks after Telefonica took them over.

I mentioned in the Orange Wednesday thread that them stopping that perk was probably a good indicator as to who was the main target between O2 and EE for BT.
I reckon we're looking at a done deal for BT + EE, subject to ironing out a few niggles (of which I reckon Orange Wednesday was one).

BT backhaul isn't well priced, before the EE agreement Orange used CW for a lot of their stuff as it was much better priced. After that, Virgin started doing great prices (and still do) and then all hell broke lose with EE siding with BT for Backhaul, Voda buying CW, MBNL etc...They are businesses though so they will use competitor products if it's cheaper - that's the name of the game. A customer i recently worked with demanded 2 providers for the last mile, Voda (so ex-cw) for one link, Virgin for the other. I'll do whatever you want if you pay for it
I don't think it's a big deal in the grand scheme of things but it's likely to have some impact in the medium term as people switch gradually.

Was talking to my girlfriends father about this.
He is fairly high up on the BT mobile business side of things and he didn't have a clue who they would end up buying.
Although he is now fairly relieved as he has had his teams convincing their customers that EE was the right choice, whoch would have been fairly embarrassing if they bought out O2 haha.
