Mobile phone number - possible to change the outbound number?

Hi guys

My contract is up on my phone very shortly and I'm looking to upgrade.

I use it a lot for my business and I'm finding more and more people are leaving just mobile numbers as contact details which cost a bomb to call from landlines and are included in my minutes on my contact.

I don't want my personal mobile number being displayed on their phones as the business has a dedicated land line number so at the moment I ring with caller withheld which immediately makes people suspicious.

I wonder, is it possible to somehow route the mobile number/signal so it displays the landline number to the recipient?

The business landline number currently is just on a VOIP connection (we moved premises and kept the number)...any ideas if it can be done?

Thanks very much! :)

Vodafone can give you a "landline" number on your mobile phone. Business only.

You won't have the same number but it will display as a landline if that helps.

Thanks for the reply chaps.

You're right, it can't be spoofed, I checked with Voipfone who runs by business line and they said the same thing.

Good thought spudbynight, I had thought of that but as you say I won't have the same number...had it for a good number of years now so I don't really want to change it.

However...they do have a seemingly very good deal going on the Note 3 at the moment (could be personal only) so I think I will investigate it further.

Doesn't Android have a native SIP client built-in?

You could set that up with your Voipfone settings, downside is that it would munch through your phone data but they would get your VOIP number on their incoming call. If it works out you could transition to a low minutes, unlimited data arrangement perhaps.

Thanks very much for your reply Rich_L, I've never heard of anything like that before!

Data wouldn't be a problem as it would be used over wifi.

Am I right in thinking that as it's going over my VOIP connection I would be charged standard VOIP charges?

If so then I would still be paying 12p per minute per call. I have 500 minutes free currently on my mobile which is why I was wanting to utilise those.

It's a shame that Orange stopped offering Line 2 services - they might have been handy for this. Next option is a dual-SIM phone perhaps?

That did sound really interesting, I've just checked with Voipfone and as I suspected, because it uses the VOIP network then I would be charged 12p/m for calling a mobile. Thanks for the thought though! I don't think it's possible though.

I would still have the same problem of it not displaying the business land line number when I called out though.

I think I'll just call with my mobile and leave the number visible and if I have to leave a message I'll ask them to call the business land line...can't really think of another solution.

You can use voipclient and didlogic. The voipclient would phone you on a didlogic number which would forward the call to you and then connect you to the person you want to call.

The recipient would think you were phoning from the didlogic number :)

Closest products as others have noted is VOIP on handset or Vodafone OneNet business acc (1 number - x number of devices). I would never recommend withholding CLI for businesses though, it's all about the impression it gives etc...
