Mobile phones and petrol stations

"complete liar" it was a joke in jest, but some of you took it TOO seriously!

It wasn't a very nice thing to do though, people might have made a trip out especially after reading your lying post. Plus it wasn't a joke, it was just a lie and you got caught with your pants down.

I thought the myth was that it could blow up the petrol station!

I think both Braniacs and Mythbusters have tried to blow up petrol stations etc.. (or Caravan filled with Petrol and about 20 mobile phones, in the case of Braniacs) and disproved this 'Myth'!!... :D

I'll use it when I get back into the car so I can update the fuel log app but if there's anyone waiting behind then I'll wait until later I suppose.

I always write the mileage on the receipt and fill out my Fuel Log App when I get home :)

It probably goes back to the 80's when (Illegal) AM CB Radios were all the rage, you could get amplifiers (Burners) that boosted your signal and they were found to be affecting certain types of petrol pumps and causing the pump to give lots and lots of extra free petrol, so they blanket banned their use on all petrol forecourts under the guise of Terrorlolism (Well, they said it would blow the pump up and everyone would die in a fire..) as they were just too lazy to fix the affected pumps.

This is why I was aware of the ban too, due to them affecting pumps.

Except for the guy at the till who spends the entire time serving me on his mobile speaking Pakistani

Please tell us more about a man speaking Pakistani.

What language is 'Pakistani' when it's at home? Do you mean Urdu?

I'll wait while you join the dots. No pressure, take your time there champ.

Interesting that

Our local one used to be "omg your going to blow the place up" the panic on te woman behind tills face when someone walked in on the phone is something il never forget

Now they just ask people not to use them in the que . I guess because people making 'important' calls in public are gay

The one on planes ****es me off too. I put mine in flight mode, even though I honestly don't think the very weak signal on my phone which isn't connected to a tower could actually effect anything. (show me the evidence to the contrary and I'll shut up)
I was asked after all of that, too turn my phone off during a flight, I wanted to play angry birds and the stupid trolley bint wouldn't let me.

yes that agitates me too and I don't understand it!

Pity mythbusters didn't test with LPG which is far more volatile, regarding use of mobiles on the forecourt, it is a distraction hazard, people are likely to wonder into the path of moving vehicles and/or pull the nozzle out of the vehicle causing a spillage, etc. People are far more agreeable to not using them when sensible reasons are given, though I've no idea what the actual reasoning for it is supposed to be.

What's volatility got to do with anything here? :p

I hope you don't get upset when you get trolled till the end of time over that, because you deserve it.

Another lie i see, nice!

and people wonder why there's such scepticism about things...

Except for the guy at the till who spends the entire time serving me on his mobile speaking Pakistani

Does it matter what language he's speaking in?

i could never find Spot, so please tell us. :D

Subtly hinting that the poster is racist because he took something as inconsequential as a man speaking a foreign language that strongly correlates to a particular ethnicity rather than simply saying "the guy on the register was on his mobile."

This is made all the more sweet by the fact that "Pakistani" is not, in fact, a language leaving yet more tasty, delicious egg on his face.

When I worked in the industry it was my understanding that the Vibration function could ignite fuel vapour or causes inteference with the communications between the pump and the till/control unit.

Far more dangerous were the people who filled up with the engine running or on those rare occassions.... smoking

At the end of the day your on thier premises, they ask you not use them on the forecourt, unless its a life or death situation follow the rules.

Everything, it's far likelier to get to the correct mixture to ignite.

But volatility doesn't automatically mean it's more flammable, or even that it's flammable at all. It could be massively volatile, but not flammable in the slightest.

Right, did you forget where we were discussing liquid petroleum gas or are you trying to say that it's not flammable?
