Mobile Phones

I don't get how you can survive in modern day without a phone.
If I can't find anything to do i'll ring some mates up. I also use it for work as I need to be in contact with the newark branch a lot a mobile phone is a lot more practical.

What can you do without a phone?
Not a lot, if you don't arrange something face to face you're buggered really, it's a night in on your own or you have to painstakingly track your mates down.

Without a mobile you have to get up, go to the house phone, phonebox, whatever, find the number you want to ring, painstakingly type it in, you still pay for the call. Wheras if you had a phone you could just find it in your phonebook and press call.

You have to at least carry an address book on you if you don't have a mobile. You sir. fail.

my phone is good. It does everything i want, and is quite compact. I can ring somebody if i want to see whats happening at night. I can text my ladyfriends, and i can take pictures of stuff i want to.

My phone enables my mates to ring asking if i want to go down pub etc. Also as a safety thing, car breaks down etc. Or if I'm caught in traffic i need to tell my boss im going to be late etc, to save a warning

No real-reason not to have one, i don't always carry it on me especially not at home, just bung it with all my other clutter :p

The cost issue doesn't really work for me either. I don't use mine very much, so I don't have a contract, I do PAYG. If I don't want/need to use it, I don't pay a penny.

before mobiles, people made plans and stuck to them. nowadays, on an evening out or whatever, you're on the phone every ten minutes checking where people are etc

The only time I don't carry a mobile is on a night out. They are unofficially banned amongst our group, nothing worse than being in the pub and being interrupted by a phone or somebody with there head down texting or calling half the night.

ouch! No phone?! I think the unpredictability of life without a phone isnt a reason to ditch it. This would ONLY work if EVERYONE ELSE ditched theirs too. My phone has found great uses apart from girls, getting info about my new job, telling people when i'm late, getting directions when lost, list goes on. And also phoneboxes are hard to find now too!

They are as annoying, restrictive and influential on your day to day living as you allow them to be. Do I use my phone every day, or even every few days? not usually. However, there are times I find it very useful and wouldn't want do without it. Then again there is no need to do without it as it doesn't cause me any problems which it seemed to for you. Perhaps it is more about you than your phone :p ;)

I think there is no doubt that mobile phones are a useful tool.

But I find at times they are very anti social when you are out with friends. Some would receive text messages and feel the need to reply to them straight away as well as taking phine calls, I am guilty of this.

Also, I can never remember anybody's phone number anymore. Used to know my friends' numbers off by heart but if my phone runs out of battery I can't just use a landline because I have forgotton the number.
