Hi all,
Recently I purchased several components for a new rig, which when running I am extremely pleased with. However, I've a niggling problem. Which means if I boot from cold, the computer hangs and needs to be restarted again via the power button. On the second or third (possibly more) repress the PC boots into life.
Initially I thought it was a problem related to the mobo looking for a pci card instead of a pci-e card, as seen here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17874825
However the problem of not booting first time from cold, continues.
My rig is this:
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
Abit IX38 QuadGT Intel X38
Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX
HIS Radeon 3850
LG DVD RW
Maxtor 250 g sata drives (x2 in RAID1)
Tagan 480 w psu (approx 3 years old)
The graphics card is OC'd to near 3870 speeds but the cpu is stock (until I get this booting issue resolved). The PSU was until recently powering a P4 -D system with the same graphics card, same hdd and dvd drive. In fact, once booted up, this seems rock solid, so I am disinclined to think it's the psu.
When booting up from cold, the POST code reads 9.9. as I tend to shut down my pc fully. When it fails to boot, it gets as far as 9.0. which I believe means abit guru initialised BIOS taking over... except it doesn't.
Any suggestions please. Is my psu on the way out? Is it the mobo - time for RMA? I've checked all the connectors...
When it finally boots, i get a message ACHI BIOS not installed. Is this somethingto be concerned about?
Thanks for reading this rather long post. And for any response(s).
Chris
