I've been thinking to buy the Asus P5N-E SLi to match an E6600 and GTX8800. I specifically want the option to upgrade to Quad core, but the SLi option is a nice to have, but not an essential.

However, the OC website says:" the cards require PCI-E x16 slots, they will not function in a x8 slot so for SLi you need dual x16 mainboard. Finally 500W minimum for PSU and 600W+ is recommended."

So I think the p5N is x8 PCI??? And I would need to go to the 680 chipset to get x16 - is this correct. And if so, does this rule the 650 chipset out even if I only run a single GTX?

Would the DS4 solve my problem?

the 650i chipset (P5N-E, FP-IN9, P6N SLI-FI etc.) runs a single gfx card at x16 or 2 at x8 each.
