Modding fan power cables

Hey guys, I recently bought an NZXT sentry controller but to my dismay learned that it doesn't have 4-pin fan support, only working through voltage control :(

I was annoyed at first but then realised that this makes a great excuse to start learning about cable braiding and modding in general!

I want to mod my two noctua fans and two silent eagles from 4-pin to 3-pin
I understand that I can simply connect the ground, +V and third feedback wires but I will need new cable ends as the sentry has a little cage around its fan connectors. Since the fan cables themselves are modular, I thought I may as well make brand new cables without butchering the current ones. I can then braid them too :D.
Has anyone done this kind of thing before and did you have difficulties? Will I need any tools like a soldering iron or crimper?
Cheers

tbh a crimper would look ugly imo. i would solder joints and shrink wrap tube them, they would look really neat then. you can buy tons of colored shrink wrap and stuff from electrical stores and the like, and braiding kits and colored connectors are getting more popular ive been looking into the same type of thing recently

You can buy a 3pin plug, take the wires out (modding tools will do this) and just leave out one cable, you can either cut that wire off or wrap it under cable braid incase you ever want the 4th cable.
