Hi Guys,

I have never done any modding or overclocking what so ever and am not sure where to begin. The point is I have no desire to stuff up my new rig by making a noob mistake may it be by simply wrecking the case or shorting something out!

Would it be worth digging out my very old P4 based system and putting money into it in the way of mods so as to use it as my guinea pig?

Well modding and overclocking are two entirely different things.

If you are modding, then yes, take an old case and some old bits and hack around as you please. You'll need plenty of "leave-able" work surface space, so a workshop is preferable and you'll need some tools like a drimel.

It always helps to have a concept and design no matter how small the project.

+1

I certainly wouldn't go doing any serious modding on a new system (if your just fitting some new fans and led's though im sure youll be fine). Anything serious, cutting, painting etc - definately practice on an old case first.

As for overclocking, you cant really cause damage unless you do something really stupid, just check the guides on the forum and raise things gradually and test test test and youll be fine :)
