Modding/ Replacing Bios?

willhub said:
I know but if I need to RMA its obviously because the card is dead or tons of artifacts so I wont be able to flash it back lol.

And why the Rev04 bios, there is a Rev 05 bios :S

And I use NVFlash right, I downloaded that, its just 2 .EXE's, are these what I burn onto CD?

use the latest rev bios, as for doing it with cd , u can, but i have no idea how to lol :)

Got a bootable USB flash drive?

I have 2, dont think there bootable, dont know how to check?

Anyway ya found a floppy disk...

So when it loads, I have the modded bios: EVGA.8800GTS.PCIe.640MB.Rev.04.rom

And the backup Bios: (How do I get the backup?)

The I type into the CMD: a:nvflash -5 -6 EVGA.8800GTS.PCIe.640MB.Rev.04.rom

That right?

1. Download the correct BIO's file you need

2. After it's downloaded Rename this file to 1.rom

3. Download nvFlash

4. Unzip nvFlash create a folder on your desktop paste all of it in the folder

5. Install a floppy in my computer right click it format and reformat it for MSDOS then open it.

6. open the folder with the nvFlash, cwsdpmi and the new bios 1.rom copy and paste them to the floppy

7. Restart the computer with the floppy in.

8. Making a backup once you get to MSDOS and see the {A:\} prompt next to the prompt type, nvflash -b backup01.rom (This Backs up your stock BIOS, just in case you have to flash it back)
IT' ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO CHECK THE FLOPPY TO MAKE SURE THE BACKUP TOOK

9. Normal BIOS Flash, next to the {A:\} prompt type, nvflash -5 -6 1.rom This should flash it if it doesn't you force flash it.

10. Force flashing, next to the {A:\} prompt type, nvflash -4 -5 -6 1.rom
That's it remove the floppy and restart, DONE

Now if for any reason something went wrong you have the backup on the floppy so you just do step 9. again with nvflash -5 -6 backup.01R flashes it back to stock.

nvFlash v5.38 Commands...
"nvflash -b backup.rom" (Backup your BIOS)
"nvflash -5 -6 backup.rom" (Normal BIOS Flash)
"nvflash -4 -5 -6 backup.rom" (Forced BIOS Flash)

Thanks USFORCES

no point in flashing with a different brand it could go wrong because of the bios miss match.

just overclock it with rivertuner/ati tool

or just mod the original and set the clocks you want, also u can increase shader clock

Did the BFG bios actually give better performance?

I just used that bios because it was rev4 and set the clocks to evga ko speeds, gained around 550 points in 3dmark06

Hmm, I will try later on, gotta wait for my parents to bring some floppy disks home.

What about game performance?

might aswell use this thread, so ive got SLI 7600's.
different brand cards, one XFX the other BFG.
i will be flashing the latest rev.05 bios onto both cards, is it possible to flash the bios onto both cards at the same time or have i got to switch the cards around in the PCIE slot?

Aww I read this thread hoping that I could pump some more voltage into my 8800GTS core :P

Thanks for the disappointment ;)

Still might do it anyway, saves me having software to overclock it with I suppose. Quick question though:
We all know that upping the Core clock through Rivatuner or whatever you use automatically increases the shader clock by a certain ratio, so what happens if you set the core clock in the BIOS to 650 but the Shader to 1300 or so? Would it be automatically adjusted or will it run at the BIOS set speed?

Cheers

i think it wil run it but you may get some artifacts due to it running out of sync or something like that
