Hi,

I'm just looking at some mrk6 vauxhall astra sri's with the exterior pack (09/10 reg).

As Google is failing me can someone explain extactly what extras you get with the exterior pack?

Also, what is VVT - as I've seen this mentioned on a few cars I've been looking at.

Thanks

09 reg Mk6 Astras? Are you sure they are not Mk5 Astras?

You'd be totally bonkers to buy a late Mk5 Astra.

Why bonkers? :)

Sorry mean the mk5 - this style:

DO NOT BUY A 2010 MODEL OF THAT CAR.

Seriously. It's a discontinued car, it's been out for 6 years, its old news. This means that (Leaving aside the fact I think it's a fundamentally poor car for the moment) there is a marketplace full of them starting from like £3.5k.

Buying a 2010 one for a huge amount of cash is like setting fire to money.

I can sorta get a 2010 current shape Astra, but not a 2010 one of those.

Well even if we ignore the fact it's an Astra at all, why buy one of the very latest ones when it won't be appreciably different to a 2007/2008 (or hell, even a 2005/2006) one that will probably cost half as much and depreciate half as much?

edit - ffs, he's just too fast :p

Hate how the mark 6 looks personally, much prefer the style in the pic :) I've not seen one for 3.5k though.

This is just a bad time to spend big money on a Mk5 Astra. You've missed the boat, it's sailed, it's gone.

Either:

a) Buy an older one and save a fortune
b) Buy something else
c) Accept the fact it's going to be hugely expensive to own given the big depreciation it will suffer.

Just look at Mk4 Astra values for an idea - it doesnt really matter whether it's a W reg or an 03 plate, they are all worth nothing now - once a model gets properly old the values all become blurred and condition becomes more important. This is where the Mk5 will be by the time you sell your '10 plate example.

The time to buy a 6 month old Mk5 Astra was 2006, not 2011.

I am trying so hard not to be anti Astra here - but if you want a 6 month old Astra you buy the current shape one. If you dont like the current shape one you buy something else, or you buy older.

Hopefully everyone can see my point and wont assume I am being anti Vauxhall. The same applies to any car at this point in its life cycle. If you were trying to buy a 10 plate E60 5 Series I'd be saying exactly the same things.

he's referring to the shape (astra H, a 5 door will probably be around that much) the sri's 06/56 can be found for 6-7k the difference between an early one and late one isnt enough to justify the ~5k difference
