Just a quick question, what current ATI and nVidia cards are most similar in performance to the old ATI 9800PRO?

6600gt is only marginally better than a 9800pro, not a lot in it, deffo not worth spending cash on an upgrade between the 2 put it that way.
i dont think the x1600 is as good as a 9800pro either, but i could be wrong there. what about a x800gto or something?

dunno why people big up the 9800pro for its no match for a 6600gt which can be had for a cheaper price. along with the high failure rate of the 9800pro its a card well worth avoiding.

I like the 9800 Pro, but if you're looking for a "modern" card of the same power then, as said above a few times, the 6600GT is probably your best bet.

It all depends on budget

Having said that though, for performance like a 9800Pro, look at the X700Pro and the X1600Pro. For slightly faster performance, look at the 6600GT and the 7800GS

You can pick up the 9800Pro for £40 used now though - that's a real bargain for what it is

Same as what others are saying, the 6600GT is closest in terms of performance to a 9800 Pro but theres really not much in it.

I guy I know changed to a 6600GT from his 9800 Pro last year and thought he was upgrading. He ended up being very disappointed by the performance :(

I quite like my 9800PRO – I very rarely play games and when I do I’m happy at 1024x768 with all the options on. The 9800PRO seems to work fine for this... but it won’t fit into an PCI-Express slot! So the brief is really the cheapest PCI-Express card that is at least as powerful as the 9800PRO. I’m thinking that the sweet spot on the price/performance/power consumption curve is actually the nVidia 7600GT for just over £100 or maybe the 7600GS without a fan.

How does the 7600GS compare with the 9800PRO?

The X700 pro & X1600pro are probably the closest cards in terms of raw performance with the 6600 GT & X800GT slightly faster & the X1600XT faster still.

The 7600GS is the 6600GT replacement card (so about as fast).

you can still get 6800nu cards for under 80 quid new all in if you look around. very good cards for the money. better than 6600gt and have some fun unlocking and clocking.

lol the 7600GS is fair bit faster than 6600GT i think, when you consider the GT is faster than 6800 ultra, and an ultra was a hell of a lot faster than 6600GT
