Bought in 2009, Dual Core Xeon 3065 c/w 8GB RAM running Windows Server 2016 c/w 6 HDD's

Only used for downloading (Jdownloader / SABnzbd), Logitech Media Server & hosting my 4K MKV's via Kodi / Nvidia Shield

What sort of money/models are you talking for a modern slim line NAS to replace it with the same or better performance?

Go for something like a Dell T30 or Lenovo TS150 which can set you back anywhere from £200 - 400 depending on if you get the new or used ones. Make sure to go for the Xeons as they stream 4K via Emby for me without issue.

Failing that you could gor for an ML350 G8 or ML110/ML150 G9/10 but that might set you back a little more

As you’d be direct playing 4K content, CPU type is irrelevant as it’s only got to send the data to the client, not transcode or process it in any way.

Sorry, completely missed that bit. In that case Avalon is right however if you did want the option then going with a beefier CPU might set you in good stead for the future

Kodi can’t transcode anything, not that you would want to transcode 4K, HDR tone mapping is broken in Plex at present and outputting fast encoded 1080/10 is far from ideal, besides a shield is capable of direct playing pretty much anything you throw at it.
