I bought Modern Warfare 3 from amazon tonight, installed it on my macbook pro but its locked at 30fps, it doesnt matter what res i run it at 1920x1200 or 2880x1800 or even 1280x720 it still sticks at 30fps.

Is there any way to unlock it so i can run it at 60fps?

To be honest, competitive online shooters need to have a frame limit, somebody playing @ 60fps vs somebody playing @ 30fps, the person at 60fps is going to have a slight advantage before they ever even meet. Argue against that I'm about to say all you want; but that's pay to win right there. There is a reason fighting games aren't supported and have no actual online fanbase whatsoever on PC, they like everybody being on an equal playing field.

I have v-sync off in both the control panel and in game - its the only game Ive installed on the laptop so I suppose I should try another to see if its this game only or every game, maybe its a bootcamp issue.

Make him a little wiser, and maybe if he can't fix it, he will feel a little better about not being able to do so? :p

Having seen your PayPal thread and having been unfortunate enough to read many of your other crass and ill-informed postings on this forum (and my word there are a lot of them) I can safely say you shpuldn't be handing out wisdom to anybody ever. Taking some in occasionally might be useful though.

I have highlighted the problem, only solution is to buy a decent PC. :D

It cannot be an Apple Hardware or software issue if he is getting the same FPS at both 2880x1800 and 1280x720, also running in Windows so the links showing how to change GFX settings under OSX aren't much use. IMO its either the game or the drivers causing the problem.

Yeah the settings are fine, tbh I was quite impressed that it could do 2880x1800 at a constant 30fps anyway, but if im playing multiplayer i really want to get 60 and I know it can do it as others have it running at that.

Might well the a driver issue, Ill have a look and try a different driver, I havent loaded any other games on yet to try out.

Hah, Ive found out what the problem was!

Run on battery mode - 30fps capped - plug in power - 60fps.

Sorted!

With vsync off im getting between 100-130 at 2880x1800 which is pretty good I think (max detail).

You'll have to try it out on some modern games and let us know how well it does.

No - people need to buy decent PCs and play at their best, not try and handicap everyone else - maybe we should cap everyone at 300ms latency and 3kbyte/s netrate just incase theres someone still on dialup?

Normally I'd probably disagree but tbf, it doesn't take anything to run Modern Warfare or any of the Call of Duty titles (that's one thing they've done right; optimization).

What are the specs of the OP's Macbook Pro? I wasn't away they had any power.
