After a hard-drive failure on my laptop, I upgraded to much larger capacity and the faster 7200 drive.

With all the 'extra' room I decided to reinstall steam onto this drive rather than running it off of my external as previously done.

Since then my team fortress 2 performance seems to be dire- running most settings on low/medium and still experiencing terrible performance quality- where as before I was running most on medium/high with it playing fine.

What could be the issue here does everyone think - could it be the game running from the laptop drive opposed to the external or might there be a key driver/similar missing??

Any help would be most appreciated, J

Im suprised thats happening, i would have expected your performance to have increased with a new internal drive. I would recommend you download and install the latest drivers to start with :)

Out of interest what spec is your laptop?

Also, have you reinstalled Vista within the last few days? The indexing it does for a few days after the install can affect hard disk read speeds in games so that could be a cause, but it seems unlikely. Just an idea :)

Dell Inspiron 6000:

Intel Pentium M 1.73Ghz
2GB RAM 533Mhz
Seagate 7200 80GB HDD
Ati Mobility Radeon X300

Running XP service pack 2. Everything was completely reinstalled with new harddrive and is running quicker than ever, but when it comes to TF2- its taken a steep drop!
