Can we please have a "once and for all" answer of whether we can discuss TV episodes before they have aired in the UK.

I know the issue was brought up a few months back and the mods were going to discuss if it was allowed. However we had no definitive answer.

Think this was the thread: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18346503

Now, to take one very strong example...the Walking Dead thread had loads of people posting about episode events before the UK air dates and using the spoiler tags as a "get out of jail free" card. http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18322156. I'm fairly sure that on more than one occasion, they ruined episode events for people because even though we have spoiler tags, they don't work on email thread notification.

Personally, I don't care either way, either allow it or don't. Please don't leave us with a grey area where no one is really sure.

We're either allowed to discuss or not, mods...please clarify!

Cheers :D

EDIT: Going to add this in here for those who can't read through the thread before posting. The mods have replied to this thread and the old rule stands...

I've raised it for discussion with the moderation team anyway but for the avoidance of doubt I'd say at the moment that nothing has changed to the normal order - you're still not meant to be discussing episodes that have not yet been aired in the UK. If there are shows which have had either no release in the UK or a very limited release then presumably providing you can acquire them legally here it wouldn't be an issue to discuss them but that would be a judgement on a case by case basis. As always if you're in doubt then feel free to email one of the moderators listed to check out whether it is acceptable.

Deal with it, seriously

What about TV shows like Community and Breaking Bad, neither of which have ever had a proper run of syndication over here?

Buy them on DVD...

You can't get Community season two over here on DVD. We're near the end of season three.

Also, Breaking Bad hasn't been show on TV here since the end of season two, and while you can buy season three on DVD you need only look at the the thread to see the discussions on season four.

I'm playing devil's advocate... That's the sort of hard line stance you'd need, basically.

Why not have this which will sort it once and for all

for example

SPARTACUS - USA DISCUSSION
SPARTACUS - UK DISCUSSION

If you are concerned about copyright just say we also have usa people on the forum too i mean christ we have people from europe on this forum. I really don't see the problem of saying a unaired episode is awesome if it doesn't contain spoilers.

Why should I have to put up with Adverts after already paying everything else?

I made a thread about it before but I think the best way to please everyone would be a separate US TV Sub-forum in here. I'd like to talk about programs that I've seen (esp one that aren't shown in the UK) without worrying about spoiling it for other people.

However if that's not going to happen and the "UK aired only" rule stays as it is then the Mods really need to be just as active as the guys in General (Random Pics thread for example) at policing the threads so that there's a clear line on what is OK.

Agreed a US TV-Sub forum would be brilliant, we already have a BOOB thread now after years of suspended people for posting such. What If I watched a Preview trailer on youtube?, we need a US TV section it ISN'T a copyright issue unless a full episode is aired on this forum

It's a fact of life that some of us are going to watch the latest episodes as soon as they are aired and I think it's unfair that we could get suspended for it.
Absolutely nobody from the authoriteeeeez are going to come for OCUK because we discuss such episodes as long as we don't link.
I reckon a trial period of an American sub forum would be excellent and if anybody goes into the normal forum and spoils anything then a suspension should be handed out.
Even posting something like 'Ooh, you're going to love the next episode' would get a suspension.
Let's have a trial forum Mods.

No it isn't like that at all. It's people who have watched the episode and want to discuss it.

Also, wait an extra day? You mean a few months or sometimes more. By which time you will have seen spoilers if you visit other forums or image boards.

What about if we live in the US and haven't torrented anything, but have merely just seen it legally before you?

look at the game of thrones thread, theres a full page of people posting just to say they watched the episode..

its worst than the idiots who used to post download speeds on every game/demo release.

would it kill people to wait from 5am - 10pm once the episode has aired in the uk and they can actually talk about the episode? theres no need for a dozren people to start posting great ep omg awesome

same thing in the spartacus thread and that airs the next day on sky aswell?

I've said it before, plenty of other UK forums allow discussion of shows that have just aired in the USA. As long as the thread title is clear as to whether it's the UK or US run that is being discussed I honestly can't see the problem.

It's been brought up for discussion in the DR - cant post much else right now as I have to do my regular visit to church - every Christmas and Easter!
