Modular or Regular?

If your going to spend that much go for the Corsair HX 650W, it's more powerful than the OCZ where it counts on the +12v 52A vs 50A. And better in every other deparment too.

OCZ ModxStream 700W = £75
Corsair HX 650W = £97

Why pay £22 more when the OCZ will do just fine for his Core i5 setup? As for OCZ's blowing up... lol, I've been using a very crap brand 550W PSU for about 3 years now and it's managing just fine. The OCZ is well built and will also be fine.

My bad I looked at the wrong PSU, the OCZ ModxStream 700W is only 46A +12v.

In that price range, stuff modular and get the Corsair TX650W (52A +12v).£78.99.

The Corsair HX 650W is worth the extra money, but if you are on a tight budget, the Corsair TX650W is the one to go for.

I have used a lot of crap branded PSU at work and on very low budget systems, but that's cause I'm not the one paying for any parts that get fried if the PSU dies. :)

Ive had 2 psu's go pop on me, first was a brand new seasonic s12 that blew up the first time it was switched on, second was an enermax that just went pop out of the blue after 6 months use.

Bad luck with the doa. My S12 600w has been running 24/7 for 3.5 years now. :)

All these lovely new PSUs, the Seasonic X-650 in particular, and I can't buy one cause my S12 is fine. :p

In a big case modular is probably not worth the cost unless you really care about keeping it tidy. There will be plenty of space to hide the spare cables. Also modular will have a slightly higher failure rate.

An overclockers mod said that OCZ have a lower RMA rate than Corsair so they seem to be pretty good. That said all PSUs have the possibilty to go BOOM. Paying for quality greatly reduces the chance that the rest of your computer goes BOOM with it.

I bought my modular Corsair PSU first but with my HAF932 I probably wouldn;t replace it with a modular.

The Corsair TX 650W was the original PSU that I was looking at before I posted this thread.

To be honest I'm going back towards the Corsair over the OCZ now. In addition I'm looking at getting the 950W Corsair (non-modular) for my own new build (i7 920 overclocked + Crossfire 5870)

Don't see any point in paying more for modular , its a few extra cables , not exactly hard to put them somewhere out the way of the fans.

I'd go for normal higher wattage than modular everytime.

All over and done with now.

Settled for the Corsair TX 650W.
