Modular Phone - Project Ara

Okay this is very in my interest band, wow this will change things considerably. ant more battery power? Just swao out a blank module with a battery module. Want a zoom lens camera module? Swap it out!

hahaha great video!

Loving the looks of Project Ara, The idea of swapping modules is something that appeals to me, I don't use the camera very often so being able to swap that out at any time for more storage/battery would be immense.

I hope it'll become the next big thing.

Very cool, wacking big battery, wacking big camera, awesome screen and med level soc etc.

Just need MS to follow as I prefer wp.

I'm really curious whether the modules will be fully interchangeable (eg put in an extra battery where the camera goes etc), and how on earth they managed to do that.

more reading here, i am quite interested in this

Will Toshiba be designing these SoCs themselves? How well will they perform compared to current SoCs? I'm hoping Nvidia, AMD, Samsung and Qualcomm will develop modules for Ara as well, or someone else using their chips.

Can't say I know to be fair. I'm hoping Qualcomm jump on the bandwagon though!

Looks like Marvell and Nvidia are designing modules based on their SoCs (Marvell's PXA1928 and Nvidia's K1): https://plus.google.com/+GoogleATAP/posts/CNa71nE6kfN

Looks like Project Ara will be a top performer as well, I was worried they had to opt for lower end SoCs due to power usage but this is looking great.

There will be events on the 14th and 21st of January in multiple locations, and they will livestream the Mountain View and Singapore events too.

Thanks for the information on this hadn't heard anything further about this for a while nice to know it is it still going strong very interested in Project Ara think it has great potential for the future hopefully we can start to see devices coming out Q4 2015/Q1 2016.

Do think its very interesting. I don't need most of the stuff my phone has. but some times you want it for just one thing and another at a different time. Definitely keeping an eye on this one

I think it's a great idea, but it all comes down to price of the parts, and compatibility between them, which from Google need to set a guide line that everyone has to work too.
